Establishing In-State Residency

Hey everyone,

I'm from Texas and I just got back from a Campus Day on Saturday, which was awesome. The only thing that is holding me back from being able to go to Michigan is the out of state cost. Is there a way for me to establish in state residency or do something that can reduce my total cost of attendance?

Thanks,

Daniel

Have your parents move to Michigan and start paying Michigan taxes for a couple of years before you start college. Other than that, nothing really.

DWT - Truly, there is no avenue to become a MI resident once you’ve been accepted short of your entire family moving permanently to MI with proof that you’re NOT doing it to be considered in-state. Their residency requirements are very stringent. Even grad students who go off and work and pay taxes in MI and then return for grad school have been denied residency.
