Have any OOStaters established WA residency to qualify for in-state tuition? What was the process like?

From the UW website, the overview is here:[UW Residency - Understanding Washington State Residency](<a href=“Residency for Tuition Purposes - Office of the University Registrar”>Residency for Tuition Purposes - Office of the University Registrar)

The details are here: [UW Residency - Establishing A Bona Fide Domicile](<a href=“Residency Requirements (Non-affidavit) - Office of the University Registrar”>Residency Requirements (Non-affidavit) - Office of the University Registrar)

Essentially, you have to live independently in the state for at least one year, primarily for purposes other than education, before you are eligible. The details are important. Read the FAQ’s. Questions should be directed to UW because you don’t want to assume you will qualify and find out a year later that you don’t.

Usually people move to WA for a year and work to establish residency and save up money for school. (This is true of almost any state.) Even though you delay school for a year, the thousands of dollars you save are worth it, and many enjoy getting to know their state first if not Seattle. But check with UW to make sure.
