excuse me if this is a dumb question, but i'm technologically challenged when it comes to computer hardware. since not all places on campus are wireless, specifically the dorms, is everyone buying an ethernet cable? i have a router and i'm not sure if it's possible to try and use that in my dorm room or if that is illegal on campus of some sort. thanks.

Cables should be available.

hey lorddragon are you 100% sure, or are you just guessing? it's a pretty important thing to bring if they're not supplied.

I read that you have to bring your own ethernet cable, and that it should be a long one.

Also, wireless routers are not allowed. I don't know about wired routers, but can't imagine there would be much need for one.

Bring your own ethernet cable. If you forget one, Norris (student center) sells them in the bookstore. I would get one that is at least 15 feet long. You aren't allowed to set up wireless connections in the dorms - they say it can mess up the network. I've never witnessed any networking problems with wireless connections (via routers in rooms) but if the Res Cons (don't remember what it stands for, but they are the computer people that live in your dorm and help you with computer problems) find out, they'll make you take the connection down.

thanks a bunch everyone.
