i'm going to be living in terry and i was wondering how long my ethernet cable should be. i don't want something too long.

I lived in Terry last year, so I know exactly what the room looks like. It all depends where you’re going to put your desk. The ethernet cable plugs are located on each side of the room, halfway across the wall and near the floor. I lofted my bed and had my desk places underneath the bed, which gave me about 4 feet of cable room between my laptop and the ethernet plug.

If you want your desk in the default position (closest to the large window) I suggest about 10 ft or so. But the shorter the cable, the cheaper it will be. :)

Hope this helps!

By the way, what floor are you on? And what side, even or odd? I was in room 908, with an AWESOME view of the Seattle skyline, space needle, and water. :)

Does even or odd matter at all?

that’s a weird place to have the plugs…darn.
yeah i’m probably going to have my desk near the windows, but in a slightly different configuration.
i will be on the 2nd floor, even.
i know the evens have the better view, but i’m on the lower floor, so i’m not sure if i’ll even be able to see the water…might end up looking at the building in front of the dorm?
have you gone to the lower floors before?
and thanks a lot for the info! :)

It’s actually a very practical place to have the plug, it stays out of view.

So you’re on the second floor even side, huh? Unfortunately, you will have a view of the big white Applied Physics building. You have to be at least 6 floors up to see the water and Seattle skyline.

But don’t worry… there are more disappointing places. I’ve been on the first floor frequently. Three of my pals lived on the first floor odd side, with a bus stop literally 20 feet from their dorm window. And the buses that stopped outside their window began their routes at around 5:00AM, so to avoid the squealing brakes from waking them up they would’ve had to shut their window a lot. So you have it better than them, believe me. They were actually quite pleased with their room anyways, since it was so close to the lobby. They didn’t have to wait for any elevators at all. Think of it this way: all you have to do is walk down one flight of stairs and off you go. I remember when one of the two elevators shut down for nearly a month. I waited almost 15 minutes sometimes for an elevator. Sometimes to the point where I walked down 9 stories to get to class. haha That was a real pain in the a**. XD

If you end up not liking your room location, you are always welcome to do a room-change request. A friend of mine lived on the 4th floor and managed to change his room all the way to the 11th floor. Not because of the view, but because he didn’t tolerate his roommates very well. XD

ohhh wow haha. that was definitely the reason why i didn’t want the odd side. also there’s the construction going on across the street, so it’s pretty bad. xP
the reason why i’m on the 2nd floor is because of the pre-health science community…so no view for me
i guess it’s ok because i do have some people that i know on the same floor and like you said, the elevator won’t be needed. :)
