So I was looking into Bates and couldn’t help but notice that there is not much diversity in the races of the students that are pictured on the website. I tried to find ethnicity stats and percentages for students at Bates… I couldn’t find any. However, as per [Bates College | Class of 2011](http://www.bates.edu/oipa-admissions-2011.xml), less than 3% of the college class of 2011 is a US permanent resident. Anyone have a sense of ethnic percentages of Bates’ student body? Thanks!

I don’t have quantitative data, but in my experience Bates is a diverse community if you decide to make it that way and not just associate with people of your own background. It’s easy to meet international students and students who identify as minorities, especially if you join one of the many cultural clubs on campus. There is also a revamped Intercultural Center on campus where some of these clubs hold meetings or events and it is a great resource for students who value diversity. Just this past weekend the International Club held its annual coffehouse, which showcases internationally diverse dance and musical performances, and Latinos Unidos hosted Bombazo, a latin dance party.
