So I am 75% caucasian and 25% mexican. However, I haven't put hispanic on my SAT, my school registration, or anything ever haha. I also look very white. Can I put Mexican as my ethnicity for colleges? My mother is half mexican. I don't want to be dishonest.

I am from North Carolina and looking to apply to schools on the east coast if that matters.

I honestly think you will get an edge from applying as hispanic and it is in no way dishonest, the question is what race do YOU identify with: If you have an ounce of hispanic blood its up to YOU to decide what race u identify alongside of.

I personally don’t think it will help. Our family is Mexican-American. Two of my three kids look Caucasian. They were nationally Hispanic recognition scholars. They all applied to various schools but many schools don’t use affirmative action, so I think it won’t help much unless you are going to Midwest or southeastern schools.

You are entitled to check the Hispanic box. For selective schools w underrepresentation of hispanic students, it will help a lot.

If you have an option to select both, do it.
