Ethnicity

I am applying for EA to UMD College Park for Aerospace Engineering.

My dad is from the Indian subcontinent, and my mom is from Canada.

Will I have a higher chance of being accepted if I put myself as white or Asian?

Basically the same as both are overrepresented. Put Indian if you have stronger ties to Indian culture and White if you feel like your ties to Canadian culture are stronger.

You can put both… also, many Canadians are some race/ethnicity other than white.

So I will be at a disadvantage either way?

Technically I am more culturally tied to Canada.

I had no idea that Canadian = white.

@GMTplus7 Sorry, I confused race and ethnicity my bad.

If there’s a “two or more races” category, put that. It’s the truth. Not an exaggerated lie.

You are not disadvantage, you just don’t represent an underrepresented group which might give a small advantage. I think I would choose mixed. If you are an international, being Canadian can be a little advantage.

@rdeng2614

Canadian is neither a race nor an ethnicity. It’s a NATIONALITY.

You are not at a disadvantage – you’re simply the baseline.

Are u an American citizen or an int’l applicant? Being int’l is generally a disadvantage, especially if u are from an well-represented country like India or Canada.
