I have been accepted into both Clemson and the honors college for next fall. I plan on attending and am now trying to decide if I will apply for the Eureka program over the summer. I wanted to see if anybody had an opinion on the program, especially one from a past attendee. Thanks.

My son is currently a senior engineering student at Clemson. He did not do Eureka but many of his friends did. He didn’t do it because he wanted to be a counselor at his summer camp that summer but he now regrets his decision. He’s heard nothing but great things about the program - the research opportunities the students had not only that summer but throughout their time at Clemson that resulted from their Eureka experience. And it was fun.

If no one from Eureka answers you here (most current students probably never come to CC - I’m only here because my daughter is a HS senior this year and sometimes I peek in at the Clemson board) you might contact the Honors office and ask if any former Eureka students might contact you.

The Clemson honors college is great - I’m sure you’re going to have a great 4 years!

I’m not in the honors college but I have heard nothing but great things about the Eureka program. Talk to Caleb Ahrns (cahrns@clemson.edu), I know that he has been in the program as well as a counselor so he can probably help you out with your questions!

My son is a junior engineering student at Clemson and in the honors program. He was hesitant to do Eureka because of it being his “last summer” with his high school friends, etc. He eventually applied and absolutely LOVED it from the first day. It’s a great way to have many friends on campus and get acclimated to the campus all before school even starts! It’s a great opportunity! You won’t regret it!

I am a freshman at Clemson University, and I did the Eureka! Program last summer. I would suggest the program to anyone who is willing to apply. I do not regret any time I spent at Clemson this summer. First, the parents and your future employers will love the program because the research part will open so many doors. After working in a nano-medicine lab over the summer, I have been able to continue this research within the bioengineering department. Being a freshman in research is not very common, so it looks great on a resume.
As for the social aspect of Eureka!, I loved it! I am an out-of-state student, so coming in knowing absolutely no one was truly frightening. However, Eureka! gave me the opportunity to meet new people. My two best friends at Clemson spent the summer with me, and I am still very close to a lot of the Eurekans. Also, the trips are AMAZING! I loved all of them! A lot of the time you just chill in the apartments, play capture the flag at midnight across campus, walk to Spill the Beans, go to the lake, play volleyball and ultimate frisbee, or have a movie night.
If you have any more questions all three of the counselors are very nice. Jennifer van Gelder is my suite mate next year, and she is so excited to get emails from prospective Eurekans! Her email is jvangel@clemson.edu. Let me know if you have any more questions!
APPLY AND GO TIGERS!
