My son was admitted to Calhoun Honors. A couple of my husband’s colleagues with older kids who, attended Clemson recommended that he consider the Eureka program. This momma isn’t very excited about that because, quite honestly, it would mean he would leave home 5 weeks earlier. Has anyone’s child done the Eureka program? Did they enjoy t? Was it worth it? Even if your child hasn’t done it, do you want to reassure me that I won’t die when he leaves, whether in late June or in August? (Goodness only knows what I am going to do when kid #2 leaves in 2 years)
My son was also admitted to Calhoun. From what I understand , the Eureka program gives Freshman Honors students the opportunity to participate in research for 5 weeks as well as social opportunities to bond with other Honors students. When we went to Discover Clemson Day last spring , the students there said it was an amazing experience that really helped with the transition from HS to college, and that they had a benefit over their peers because they had already developed some social relationships with their peers as well as faculty. It’s something my son and I plan to discuss once he makes his final college choice. Like you, I don’t look forward to him leaving for 5 weeks his last summer that I have with him.
