Prompt: Do changes that make our lives easier not necessarily make them better?

Answer:
A famous saying goes: "Enjoy the journey, because the destination will never satisfy." In this era of dlightfully quick technology, everyone should keep that thought in mind. Too often we find ourselves dashing from one meeting ot another, talking on our cell phones and only stopping to infuse our bodies with more fat and grease from a McDonald's Quarter Pounder (tm). Is rushing through our lives better for us?

The newest innovation by the giant corporate giants is the ability to receive emails through your cellular device (phone is no longer appropriate because of all of the the other features infused into it). Now your employer can reach you anywhere to call you into work. That is obviously easier for your employer, but does the stress of having your wok intrude into your life at any time make your life better?

Imagine any meal from McDonalds: a nice greasy slab of preformed meat, gently resting on a pillow-like layer of bacon, pickles and other juicy toppings, all lying between to big puffs of white bread. That is one meal that is definitely NOT better for you and your body. Why do people even go to McDonalds then? It is clearly not because it is healthier and not because of its "fine dining" atmosphere; it must be because it is easier and faster than cooking your own meal.

Life is easier these days but it is not always better. Whether it be your cell "phone" or your McDonalds "Happy Meal," today's inventions do not make our lives better. And like Bill Waterson, creator of the notoriously philosophical comic "Calvin and Hobbes" said, "If scientists wanted to make our lives better, they would invent machines that slowed life down."
