Evaluate Me

I'm a Junior from the midwest at a pretty competitive public school

Colleges I'm seriously looking into: Columbia, Cornell, NYU, Colgate, Syracuse, Pomona, Wash U, Vanderbilt, U of Illinois, Northwestern (legacy, father)

GPA: 4.8 (weighted)

Class Rank: N/A, done away with a my school. I'd imagine atleast top 25%

ACT: 30 (continuing to take it)

Academic Rigor So Far: Honors sciences, AP Euro and US, Honors geometry

Senior Schedule: AP Economics, AP Stat, AP English, AP Art History

Extra Curriculars:

Debate (several awards and nominations)
Academic Bowl (will be Co-Captain next year)
Cycling Club (will be Co-Captain when it starts)
Philosophy Club
Web Club
Track (freshman year)
Honor Society

Summer Experiences

Summer study program at University of Colorado (Boulder)
Youth cycling trip from Portland, OR to San Francisco (~1000 miles)
Another trip this summer from Paris to Nice

Volunteer Work:

Help at local homeless shelter
Work at local community arts center

ur GPA tells me ur school has sum crazy grade inflation.

its weighted. I have a 5.26 weighted.

Yea, that "grade inflation" is what I was getting at in my other thread

how can a 4.8 WEIGHTED be inflation? It is just VERY VERY good.

Yes but only top 25%? Cmon.

Nah, I don't get straight A's or anything. See, at my school they give you more credit for Honors and AP courses. Like a B- in Honors is the equivalent of an A- in level 2. So while my unweighted average is kinda lackluster in the B range, the weighted average reflects this adjustment.

i understand. Man, i suppose i will let him explain lol

So can anyone answer my initial question?

And Devil May Cry, why are you in awe of my GPA when you yourself have a 5.26?

Edit:I am not in AWE of ur GPA, I was just defending u because my school does it the same way. Ur a good student and u know that.

wow...you're weighting system must be crazy. i have a weighted 4.5316 or something like that and i'm ranked number 1. i can't imagine what kind of crazy extra points you get to have a 5.26

no, it is just pure unadulterated SKILL.

LOL, jk

Can anyone evaluate me?

I am glad they got rid of rank, but top 25% won't cut it at some of those schools (Columbia, Pomona, Northwestern). Also, you need to bump the ACT to at least a 32 or take the SAT. Your ECS are good, but not great. Sorry!

As is now (with a 30 ACT)

Superreach: Columbia, Cornell, Pomona, Northwestern (legacy, father)
Reach: Vanderbilt, Wash U
Less of a Reach: NYU, Colgate
Safe: U of Illinois, Syracuse

I think you need more matches. If you had an ACT of 33+ things change.

Thanks for your help Slipper.

Any class rank figures are speculative. I could very well be much higher than that. Anyways, colleges won't be getting that information from my school.

I'm continuing to take the ACT. God damn I hate testing. Any advice to help me get into the 32+ neighbordhood?

I think my EC's are pretty good. I've gotten some awards in debate, and I'll be varsity next year. I'm the captain of two clubs, and the founder of one. I'm an avid cyclist and hope to join a team in college. What more can I do?

You think if I stay in touch with Cornell and Columbia and apply early I have a good shot, provided I fullfill the above?

Edit: I'll also have very good reccomendations, and plan to do well on SAT subject tests in US and World history, english, and bio.

Basically, you have a shot at all those schools. Continue doing what you're doing, spend time on your application next year (DON'T procrastinate like me... haha), and do well on your SAT2 and you should be in good shape. I don't know much about the ACTs... but it can't hurt to go higher!
