Evaluate meeeee.

Hey. I just got back from touring colleges in New England and started worrying about applications. I'm currently a junior, but I have no idea what I want to major in. :\ (except that I don't want English or history)

Anyway, do you think I'd put the Ivy adcoms to sleep? What about schools like the UC's or Stanford, Rice, and Duke? Is there anything I can do now to spoof my r

Your application will be banal at HYPSM but you are a strong candidate at any other top 25 school.

You'd be about an average applicant at the HYPS, Duke, and Rice. Probably a 10 to 15% chance of acceptance at those schools. You'd have somewhat better chances at UPenn because UPenn is larger and admits more kids, and at Cornell, both because it's larger and it's a bit less selective. Chances probably in the 20 to 25% range at Penn and the 25 to 30% range at Cornell.

There are, of course, a whole bunch of top schools outside the HPYS and the rest of the Ivies, where you would be a very competitve applicant. Here's a few you might want to consider:

Washington University in St. Louis
Univer. Of Chicago
Williams
Northwestern
Wesleyan
Johns Hopkins
Carleton
Vassar
Carnegie Mellon
Tufts
Washington and Lee
Emory
Vanderbilt
Notre Dame
Georgetown

My personal favorite is WashU in St. Louis. Rated #11 by US News, it's got a really nice campus, great dorms, offers a top flight education, and the kids that go there are first rate.

hey :) omg. I can't believe I saw this post. Private message me the other ppl who are on here from our school.

stop freaking out. you'll be fine and end up at a college where you'll be happy.

HYPS is a toss-up for anyone. Luck is a huge factor.

I like the list of colleges above. Also, you can narrow down your choices by concentrating on colleges with a good program in your major. Just IMO.

UC will accept you just by walking into the gates.
Some of the easier Ivys would be a great bet for you...
As for HYPS, roll your dice... It's probably better at guessing your chances.

The only thing harder than trying to figuring out how a girl's mind works is trying to figure out an Ad com's

Great chances at schools like Duke, Rice, and UCs. Definately apply for Ivies. Especially at ones like Cornell and Brown, I think you'd have a good shot. HYPS are reaches for everyone but you have a great application and would definately be in the running.

very good chance

HYPS is pretty much out, but you should get into at least one of Duke, Dartmouth, Brown, Columbia, Penn range. The Northwestern, Cornell, Rice range I'd say you have over a 50% chance at each. You are in at anything after this.

Oh yeah Waitlist at WashU lol (they won't admit you until you make them a first choice).

Apply ED and then RD to many reaches. I was very much like you and that strategy worked for me.

Hey, are you from Cincoooo?

You have pretty decent/good chances at any school.

Heh. I go to the Arkansas counterpart to the Texas Academy of the Math and Science.

Thank you everyone for your input :)

amptron - thanks for the recs; I'll check them out
Gryffon - "The only thing harder than trying to figuring out how a girl's mind works is trying to figure out an Ad com's" - haha
slipper - Where did you apply?
aznxsweetayy - Do you mean Cinco Ranch HS? If so, then nope, heh.

I hope I didn't reduce my chances of gaining admission to more "prestigious" schools by turning down TAMS. Oh, well.
Also, one thing I forgot to mention was that I picked up tae kwon do at the beginning of this school year, but I surmise that because I did not begin to practice martial arts the minute I learned to walk, it won't do anything for me. shrug

woot tiffany

I like to be a voice of dissention here and probably get pelted by raw carrots for my unprofessional views. =P

You have a strong transcript and are a very good candidate. But that's only going to get your app read by officers. You don't particularly stand out and don't have a unique characteristic. I should know, I looked exactly like you and was rejected by some of the schools you mentioned. Like I always say to people who reach high, go save a life or something. Then come back. Just my opinion! =)

It might help to retake the SAT to break the 2300 mark, because once you climb to that plateu, colleges really dont care HOW WELL you do, because they know your intelligence level is quite high. So, if you want to go ivy league, take them again, beat a 2300, and id say ud have a decent chance providing you write a nonsterotipical essay taht they enjoy.

So, good luck.
