Evaluation of my admission chance

Stern is the school I dream of going. There is no place I see myself in being happier than there.
Could you please chance me.

I believe my application is very strong, only my ACT score is very bad. Do I still have a chance?

-ACT: 25
-GPA: W:4.00
-Rank: top 10%
-ECs etc:
--Student Council: 9th, 11th, 12th grade. President
--Ski instructor
--Worked in an aircraft company for 3 weeks
--Worked in a TV channel for 3 weeks
--Service trip to Africa
--Private airplane license

Teacher Recs: Excellent.
Counselor Rec: Excellent.
Hook (legacy, recruited athlete, etc.): No - although I play the following sports at varsity level: Soccer, Golf, Tennis and Basketball
State or Country: Austria
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male

Getting into Stern is as hard as any other top business school, ivies included, and therefore you need to be as close to flawless as possible. You need to get your ACT up or get a really high SAT, that isn’t an opinion, it’s fact, Stern has VERY high standards. To be honest I’d say it would have to be a 30+ on the ACT or a 2100+ on the SAT, I’d also guess that you are applying ED. To be blunt I’d say your chances aren’t great, the scores are the biggest thing, and even the GPA could be higher, but I won’t completely rule you out.

How much does the application as an ED help me? I want to do it, but how much is it worth? Can that even be expressed as a percent?

I think that if Stern is your very first choice, as you made clear in your post, you should definitely ED

Any one else with ideas here? Any comment appreciated

You don’t have to send your ACT… try taking the SAT or sending 3 APS (One math, one humanities, one other). Other than that, you are probably* in. :)

EDIT: Also, 38% of applicants who apply ED get in, while a little under 30% RD get in, or so said the NYU rep at my school.

I have to take the ACT. No SAT or AP chances here - private reasons.
Whats the lowest ACT I need to have a chance to get in?

NYU doesn’t do score or grade minimums, so you can technically apply with any score and they will still consider your application. However, I agree with the PP - you probably need at least a 30 (maybe a 29) in order to have a solid chance at Stern.

any other opinions?

NYU does not guarantee to meet 100% of financial need, so if you apply ED, be prepared to pay full-fare. Anything they give you will then be gravy.

Financial aid is no problem for me. I do not need it.
What are my admission chances?

I feel like you should definetely retake the SATs or ACT.
I’m also applying to NYU’s STern early decision and I am very nervous about whether or not I’ll get in. I’ve had decent grade but i am asian american so I feel that will hurt my chances. SO far these are my grades:

GPA: 4.52 (UW:3.72)
SAT: 2050
ACT: 30
AP: three 4s and one 5
Extracurricular: DECA, NHS, Beta club, Pep club, School Musical, Track adn field, Cross country, teen council, student government, Model UN.
Leadership: Model UN Advertising Chair, Town Youth Leader

What do you think my chances are?

My experience here at NYU is they are far more interested in your SAT/ACT than your GPA.

Average Stern SAT is 2160 and average ACT is 31.5.

That being said, ask yourself if you were an admin, what would you look for? If you can make Stern want you as an alumni to represent the school in the future, you’re in - good SAT or not.

Stern is a conundrum to me. It’s supposed to be a top business school but it has an almost 30% acceptance rate, which confuses me I dunno. It’s ranked #2 for finance though so…

Anyways OT: Definitely re-take the ACT or as others have suggested take the SAT instead see if you do better. Also if I’m not mistaken international applicants have a much harder time getting admission

@thestorm, I’m curious to know more about why you might think international applicants willing to pay full have a harder time getting in.

Aren’t international applicants appealing to universities as they bring a new culture to the environment?
At the rest: Please tell me what you believe my admission chances are. Thank you

I would guess it depends from where you really are, but in your case, since you are international and willing to pay full tuition I think that would make you a more competitive applicant. How much more, I’m not sure.

This might be outdated info, but I got into stern as a finance major for class of 2012.

I have to admit that I didn’t really have anything special on my application, and it was weird that I got into Stern because I got rejected from a lot of other business schools like carneige mellon’s and boston college’s.
So I feel like Stern is a wild card.
I also know that I was one of the few people that got into Stern from my school, I remember a lot of my peers getting rejected or wait-listed.

But I did have a high math sat 2 score and high ACT score, my reg math sat was just okay.
So I agree with everyone else on numbers mattering to stern. Also if you apply ED I believe you have a significantly better chance of getting in.

So if you can retake your tests, retake them!

I’m not a student at NYU so I have nothing to say on your chances, but where did you get a private airplane license? That’s just awesome. Don’t you need to be 18 to be able to fly?
