Hey. I was just wondering what you guys think is the best book for review/ strategies for the math section. I got a 27 in June, and i've been studying a little bit for it since then, but I really want to get at least a 32 on the september test. Thanks!

No one? Any help would be really nice. Thanks!

Yank, what were your subscores?

I got a 28 and through taking ACT practice tests I went from a 28 to a 29 then to a 30.
The REAL ACT Prep, is the book I was using.

My original subscores were
18 Beg./Int Algebra
14 Coordinate Geometry
12 Plane Geo/Trig

The Trig / Plane geometry is what I’ve been focusing on, and I’ve done substantially better. Practice tests work for me, for math, for some reason.

I had 17, 13, 13 ( I’m pretty sure). What book’s practice tests do you use? I feel like PR would be good, and then red book tests closer to when the time comes so I can see where I’m at… any input?

Redbook sounds like a GREAT idea to wait for… That’s what I’m doing and I think it will help.

Don’t quote me but I remember reading this somewhere
Barron’s = GREAT for Math+Science
PR = GREAT for English + Reading

So maybe try Barron’s? If you do let me know how it goes too because I want a 30+ in Math lol.

I think I read that too… I don’t really know where though.

But yeah, I’ll work on Barron’s. It’s a lot more information and worked out examples, so hopefully I can work towards getting a 32.

Also, if you take the redbook Math, you might find that half of the questions you get wrong are on the last page.

I took a test, got like -6.
I missed one of the first 50 questions… 5 of the last 10.

The practice tests should help you improve your plane geometry/trig, though. That’s the one that always kills me.

Yeah, I just hope that I can get my math up to at least thirty two. wouldn’t that be nice?

Very nice. The highest I’ve scored was a 30 but if I hadn’t made silly Algebra mistakes I could have gotten a 32-33.

Those errors always kill me, I always make at least one and it makes me so mad.

How can we limit the amount of dumb little mistakes? Just by focusing?

Well in my last review of my ACT test i had about 4 where I just didn’t do read the question or figure right.

One question asked me like if the triangles are similar then what is the measure of x? and it drew two triangles… i was working so fast i thought one was 10-8-6 and the other 3-x-5… meaning x was easily 4.

then i realize it was 10-6-6 and 3-x-5 making it x=3

So it’s little things like that. I realized that 60 Minutes is plenty time for me though, so I don’t need to work as fast. I try to work fast though because I know those last 10 problems are going to kill me!

Yeah. and I did see what you were talking about. I missed four on the last ten. haha oops. Hopefully I can do better tomorrow
