Even the slightest chances at ANY BA/MD Program??

My GPA is about a 3.43 UW, but it was because of only one year that brought it down due to family issues which will be the heart of my essay. Following that one semester, my grades shot back up. By the time i apply, my GPA will be about a 3.61 UW.

I know my SAT will be >2100 I dont know what though, and if it's lower I will take it a second time, as well as the ACT in the 30's
I will do well on the SAT II's as well - especially French

I went to a large public school in 9th and 10th grade.

I go to a private school (11th and 12th) which i think helps because of the competitive curriculum

Math Prefect (12th)
Science Prefect (12th)
Computer Prefect (12th)
Possibly an RA for the dorm and a peer counselor but maybe not (12th)

Volunteer Work :
200 + Hours of Volunteer Work
Habitat For Humanity - 30-50 hours
An additional 200 hours will be done this summer at a local animal shelter (SPCA) and a local hospital.

AP Tests :

Any classes that offered honors i took.
My current private school does not offer any honors or AP classes, but is a "college preparatory" school.

Oh and I'm a lower class white male.

My sister graduated from Cornell
My brother currently goes to Cornell
My mom was a high school drop out
My father is a Russian Orthodox Priest

What do my chances look like?

Tell me the specific BA/MD programs you think i should look at
Thanks :)

my suggestions is to apply to all the ba/md and ba/do available if you want to become a doctor. everything is getting harder now, so i wont guarantee you anything.

but i only know a couple of them, what ones would you suggest?
and im just looking to not apply to any school that is guaranteed essentially to reject me. no point in wasting $70.

colsen, the only thing is that you are a unique situation because of your explainable, but still alarmingly low, GPA.

most of the people on this board are used to straight cut gpas, stats, ranks, etc. while your situation isn't very positive (only b/c of that GPA to be honest) it is hard to tell since all of those grades WERE in 10th grade, and you have rebounded nicely since then.

I can say that you have some nice ECs, a job always helps (again, the hours not as important as you would think), if you can find some way to do some sort of research, possibly, instead of more hospital volunteer hours (hours of volunteering don't equal quality, just quantity) you'd be better off. not saying that hospital volunteering looks bad, just not as good as research.

I think the grades that single-handedly hurt you the MOST are the WF in chem, and the D in physics. not only b/c they're your lowest grades, but also b/c they are in science, both of which are necessary to do well as pre-med (not necessarily a med student though)

I'm kind of curious what a prefect is. never heard of that term outside of harry potter, so you may want to explain that in a couple lines as well.

as well as projected SAT and ACT scores, shoot for at least a 1450+ Math and Critical reading, and I think a 30-32+ ACT. I found the ACT much easier, so if you can get it as high as 33-35, that'd be best.

a prefect is a private school thing. it is essentially someone who works 3 days a week helping students in that subject. a computer prefect helps with the campus internet, kid's computers, as well as computer lab computers. we fix em :P.

do you think that a summer scholars program at Washington and Lee University would be similar to what youre talking about? Washington and Lee is becoming increasingly intruguing and might possibly be my number one school. i know its become pretty good at premed. Is that the kind of thing youre talking about?

Yeah, the grades will hurt you. Apply everywhere. If not, join your kin at Cornell - I'm sure you can get into medical school eventually.

yes, that Washington and Lee scholars program would definitely help. just show how hard it is to get into the program.

if you manage to do well on the sats (1500+), it might make up for those grades. Also, if at all possible, try to do the AP Chem exam so that you can show colleges that you made up for your sophomore chem grade.

its too late to do any more ap's :/

don't bother with top tier ones like brown, northwestern, and rice...because those will be impossible

I suggest you try drexel/lehigh/villanova

yeah, i decided im not applying to any of these programs. :)

I just want to remind you that not getting into a bs/md program isn't the end of your dreams. just focus more in college (it doesn't matter what college you go to) and you'll be fine.

yeah i decided id rather just enjoy my college experience.
And try and go to dartmouth
:D
