Even with a freshman year like this, could I still get into a top school?

C- in Honors Geometry (a class usually taken by strong students in their freshman or sophomore year)
C in Honors Chemistry (a class usually taken by strong students in their junior year)
A- in World History (for freshmen, my school does not have honors or AP level history courses)
B- in English I (for freshmen and sophomores, my school does not have honors or AP level english courses)
B- in Spanish I
A- in Multimedia Design
A+ in Concert Band (only counts as half a course)
50+ Hours of Community Service (earning me Honors Community Service)

I didn't play any sports this year, but I performed in the Spring Drama Production and wrote and acted for a school drama festival (which had to be written, practiced, and performed within 24 hours). This year, I also had one successful and two unsuccessful campaigns for student government. I was elected Ninth Grade Class Alternate Representative. My two unsuccessful campaigns were for Ninth Grade Vice President and School Treasurer.

This summer, I am going to volunteer at the hospital where my mom works, volunteer at the local library's children's section, be involved in the school play-readings, get Algebra II tutoring before I take the course, and I'm still in the process of convincing my parents to let me start taking glider plane lessons and get a student glider pilot's certificate!

Even with a freshman year like this, could I still get into a top school like the Ivy League universities or the U.S. Service Academies?

Also, here is what I plan on doing in my sophomore year:

My classes for next year are Algebra II, (Honors or Regular) Biology, AP World History, English II, (Honors or Regular) Spanish II, Introduction to Computer Science, and Concert Band.

Next year, I plan on getting Honors Community service again, joining some clubs that are of interest to me, running for the school Cross Country team, joining the Model UN team, joining the Model Congress team, joining the Euro Challenge team, wrestling for the school Wrestling team, working in the technical crew for the fall play, running for school government, perform in the spring play, and write and [act or stage manage] for the school drama festival. I may possibly join the Naval Sea Cadet Corps out of interest in the U.S. Navy. Next summer, I plan on going on a mission trip to Nicaragua, volunteering as a teen leader at my mom's hospital, hopefully attending one of the National Student Leadership Conferences, hopefully getting a Private Glider Pilot's license, possibly take a course at a community college, and hopefully attend the U.S. Naval Academy STEM Summer Program (The things for next summer are all subject to change).

Thank you.

My friend made 2 B’s sophomore year and 2 d’s in his junior year and still got into Stanford

^ URM or some other hook?

Although i don’t know very much about what grades they expect, i do know that if you have the upward trend/get straight A’s for the remainder of your highschool career and work hard on all other areas, it shouldn’t be too detrimental.

Okayy I’ve seen you post this about ten times each on three different accounts I think you know the answer by now.

Of course; it’s only your freshman year. To tell you the truth, I had a rough start on my freshman year as well. I overloaded myself with Pre-AP classes and an AP class because I thought that high school wasn’t much different from junior high- I was incredibly wrong, though I did learn that it’s a common practice for freshman to take many advanced class assuming that they will be easy like in junior high, and I fortunately was able to bring my grades up to almost all As (I had 2 Bs) this year.

I believe that colleges don’t even look at your freshman year (anyone can correct me if I am wrong). Your sophomore year (in which I will be starting this August) is important, but your junior year (which is when a lot of people start applying for colleges) and senior year is most important. Just make sure you try to bring your grades up from this point on.

Great job with your community service… But do you think that it might be having an impact on your grades?

@ Upinflight
He IS white as Conan O Brien.
But he is amazing with the violin. He played at St. Judes hospital and raised over 15,000$ for Cancer.

He actually explained how helping too much with good causes made his grades dip.

as a rising senior, id like to tell you that anything is possible. You have 3 great years ahead of you to battle and raise your grades. Do whatever it takes. I know for a fact that Stanford University does not even consider freshmen grades, and I know that many other colleges do the same.
