ever pull the major switcheroo

did anybody pull the major switcheroo
apply for classics major then change to engineering once you're in the school

I've heard of people doing this, not necessarily with these majors though

It can be done, although it can be difficult to switch entirely different schools (e.g. switching from the School of Arts & Science to the School of Engineering) The difficulty of making such a switch would depend on the university in question.

I've heard stories of a kid who did the opposite. He wanted to major in engineering, and was always strong in math/science in high school. Then in college, he ended up a Latin major. I don't know if that combination was a strategical switcheroo like you seem to believe the original scenario would be, but quite the strange turn of events no less.

It is difficult to do--

first off, what in your hs transcript would make you look like a potential classics major if you are a math/science kid?

And once on campus, would you be able to take the required engineering classes right from the beginning? Engineering is a highly structured curriculum and if you could not take the required classes right from the beginning you could end up seriously behind and take extra semesters to graduate.

Does your school permit non-engineering majors to take engineering classes? Does your college permit intra-campus transfers in to engineeering and what are the standards and requirements?

You would need to check all of this out. You aren't the first person to think of this way of getting in and colleges are wise to the strategy.

Also consider whether you could hack the engineering courses once you are in them . Is there a message in the fact that you don't think you could get in without resorting to this ruse?

I'm sure there are plenty of people who do this. Though I don't like this kind of strategizing, the colleges obviously need to have the flexibility for people who legitimately change their interests.
