I am a junior and I took the PSATs this October. Shortly after scores were sent back, my friends and I (actually: everyone I know) started to receive mail (I like to think of it as spam) and email from practically every college I can think of. If you've gotten them, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Log onto the website and fill out a survey. Mail in the card and they send you top 10 college interview questions. I know that they're pointless, at least, I think that they are pointless. That's what I'm wondering about.

Specifically, I got a letter from Penn this morning. Penn is a school that doesn't even care if you visit, if I remember correctly from the infosession. I looked over it briefly, and it was yet another survey, "Find out which historical figure you share qualities with" (or something similar). As usual, I ripped it up and recycled it. However, my mom and I have an argument about this. According to her, "If Penn mails you something, you send it back in! They keep track of who is interested!" So here is my question:

Do colleges care who mails in responses to their spam letters?

How many people really do receive the spam letters that I've been getting?

Is Penn going to reject me now?
