I sent in an application 9 days late to one of my schools!!!!!!!!!!! UGH! I didn't realize it until now, after looking at the deadline. I thought it was the fifteenth like my other safety. Are they just not going to consider my application now? The school I sent it too was Trinity in Connecticut. This sucks. I really hope they just don't throw out my application.

There's a good chance that they won't notice the lateness because lots of applications come in at the last minute, and mail delays also can cause lateness.

My older S once won a national essay contest even though I'd accidentally sent in the entry a day after the postmark deadline.

Even if it's 9 days passed the due date? I sent it online.

Public universities are more likely to use deadlines as a reason to reject applicants because public institutions are relatively cheap and often are overflowing with students. Private institutions are less likely to stick to those kind of deadlines. They want the very best applicants whom they can find.

Even with electronically submitted applications, problems can happen so the applications are delayed or never received. I would bet that adcoms are reasonably flexible.

Best of luck!

Thanks, mom. More Opinions?

This advice is from the gut, not from experience. How about calling them to ask?

They aren't trying to eliminate applications, but it isn't reasonable to expect them to say that the deadline doesn't matter. Since not that many people apply late, they might not care about letting you slide.

You did say safety? Why all the rukus for a school you are likely to turn down anyway?

Should I email them and ask if I'll still be considered?

I don't know. Who knows. You might just be drawing attention to yourself. If they are going to throw out your app because it was late, then probably no amount of begging/explaining is going to make a difference. It might be better to just hope they don't notice. On the other hand, the uncertainity may be making you crazy. You might call and ask if they received it. If they say it might still be in the mailroom, okay. If they say that it was late, then beg/explain. I don't know.

Well, it's not like I can get a refund. I really hope they don't say anything.

the more people that apply and the more people they can put on their numbers, the happier they are; don't worry about it...besides, there's not much you can do either way now

i think colleges value quality over timely manners
