every single class I want to register for is full

currently a fall semester sophomore registering for spring 09 classes. My registration date was last Thursday but I was super busy during that time so am just doing it now.

Unfortunately almost every class I am trying to register for is completely full or only 8 AM classes are left.

What can I do now? Just wait and check everyday and hope a spot opens up? Email the prof/department?

If it’s a general ed or classes with 100+ (maybe even 50) I can almost guarantee you spots will definitely open up before spring classes start…it’s just a matter of if you check everyday and catch it on time. I did that for two classes once… and it worked. Haha i was super determined though and checked at minimum once a day everday.

My brother (also at USC) had ALL of his classes full (that were requirements) and somehow he got them all too. one he had to waitlist and made it and the other he just showed up on the first day and eventually he got in, but he talked to the professor first since it was a required class. however, if it is not required and not your senior year, I wouldn’t email, since they get tons of those and must be annoying…

I say just make a tentative not-what-you-wanted schedule and register, then as classes open up you change it around. Good luck :)

Do spots open up? What happens if you can’t get your classes you need for a minor?

In the past my daughter has signed up for a couple classes that weren’t at the times she hoped for so she’d be sure of having the classes (yes, it may mean having to go at 8:00 a.m., grin) – then she monitored the classes for openings at the times she wanted. Every single time there were cancellations and she was able to switch to the more ideal time. Good luck.

Check often, people drop all the time.

There is no way you were busy for an entire week and didn’t have 20 seconds to log on to WebRegistration just to hit commit changes. This is your own fault, but hopefully you are able to get into classes you want. Otherwise, I think you learned your lesson.

USC appears to have a lot of sections for main required courses where a lot of kids need to take those classes. However, the problem is when you want to take a minor and the first required class for the minor is full when it is your registration time and there are few sections for the required minor class.

Besides checking back often like others have suggested, be sure to check back the day after tuition is due because that is when those who did not pay are dropped.

You can also petition the class and talk to the professor to see if you can get in the class. If it is imperative for your major, you will have a very good chance to get in.

Good luck.

If it’s a required class for your major and you pretty much have to take it this semester, contact your department advisor - they may be able to help you get into the class.

If it’s for a minor and you have to take it this semester, the department advisor might be able to help also, but know that they have to give priority to people in the major.

If it’s not a required class or your schedule is fine with taking things in a later semester (or this semester at 8 AM) then don’t expect a lot of help. If you had a week to register and you passed it up, that sucks, but there’s not much you can do about it now.

yeah check religiously, I think some people drop at the absolute last moment. I know Crisis of the planet opened up on the last day we were allowed to change our schedules, so anything’s possible :)
