What are your guys’ least favorite things about college life? Not just things that are hard to get used to, but also things that annoy you or stress you out regularly.
Having grown up an only child, the constant sharing and lack of privacy really got on my nerves. Want to go study? Surprise! Your room is full of your roommate’s friends. Go to take a shower? Be prepared to wait 15 minutes for one to open up. Want to kiss your boyfriend in private? You’re out of luck if there’s an event in the basement of your dorm. Bake something that needs to be refrigerated? Good luck getting all your roommates’ food out of the way. It’s not just the individual moments but the sum total of them that really eats away at you after a while. Or did for me.
@GoatGirl19 Unless you plan to remain single and childless, college is a good preparation for life.
One thing that infuriates me to no end is the lack of common sense and logic in some of my fellow college students. One instance is when I parked my car in the back of the school to ensure nobody parks next to me since I don’t like door dings, I came back from class ready to go into the city and these two half-wits decided to park on either side of me so close that I couldn’t open the door. They were literally an inch from hitting the door mirrors. The worst thing about it was that day I had a loaner so if they were to hit the car, it will be blamed on me.
In all retrospect, they probably didn’t care considering they were driving claptraps (rust buckets in laymen terms). Nonetheless, this fall I already got a plan in place and it involves ALOT of parking cones.
Students that complain about A-. The worst!
What annoys my son the most about college life is how other students don’t pick up after themselves in the dorm.
@TomSrOfBoston I definitely was used to a lot of these issues by the end but I learned later I had a particularly non-private Freshman year. It has definitely influenced my choices going forward. I had such a great college experience otherwise that this really was my least favorite thing.
The least favorite thing is the parking and the traffic. I find it annoying to be waiting at the parking lot for a long time waiting for a student to leave before I could park. This is why I prefer to take classes in the morning when there is more parking available. I also find parking really annoying when I really need to get to class and I can’t find parking so I have to park farther away and do more walking. I don’t mind walking to class. I just find it annoying when I am in a rush to get there or it’s super hot and I feel all sweaty by the time I arrive to campus. I also find the traffic to be annoying especially the pedestrian traffic. There is a four-way stop in my campus that sometimes gets confusing because of the pedestrians. Sometimes it feels like cars will never be able to turn because there is always a student crossing the street. This makes cars whose turn isn’t theirs to go which sometimes messes up who’s next. I also find it annoying when classes end and I’m trying to enter a building while all the students are trying to exit the same building.
@MoonKnight Parking is definitely a nightmare if you live on a small campus. I’ve pretty much resorted to sneaking into the faculty lot and parking there cause there is never a spot near walking distance to my classes.
