We don’t all have 2400’s and 36’s but we can still get in… right? :S

umm, how low are you talking?

because brown is still an ivy league, and while the emphasis is not on SAT scores, most students who are admitted have generally high scores. like in the 700-750 range for each subject.

What I've heard is that all you need is get in the 50% range and that's all that matters...

well brown's percentile is as follows:

for each of the subjects it's around 670/770 for 25 percentile/75 percentile. which means that 50 percentil is about 720 or low 700s. so you're still looking at least at a 2100 to be safe.

The info you need to know is here: Brown Admission: Facts & Figures

It's kind of funny that the percent of admitted students is higher for an ACT range of 24-25 than for 26-28, and less students applied with these scores. Huh... oh well, a 9-10% chance? Why not?

Is a 2090 close enough to feel somewhat safe? (Also, does it matter that my individual scores are on opposite sides? 780 along with a 660 and 650)?

The scores cannot determine if people are admitted or not.

Although good scores can give people real advantages, strong ECs and essays can also help people stand out.

Anyway, it is the AOs who are the people to make final decisions. Good luck to everybody!

High/low scores really dont determine whether or not you're admitted. A friend of mine last year was admitted to Brown and her scores were in the 1700's, which is significantly low compared to most students. anyone with a perfect score shouldnt flatter themselves into thinking they're basically accepted, and no score should stop you from applying either!

ilikecapslock: Your friend must have had some sort of hook or something then. I think?

she was incredibly smart and showed a lot of "leadership qualities". and im positive that her essay must have been great and teachers loved her. but she didnt have any legacies or didnt belong to any ethnic minorities.

Hmm... I have okay SATs 2030( CR730 M620 W680 E10). I hope my CR score is good enough! I have really good ECs tho, some GREAT teacher recs (got a sneak peek) hope brown likes my app!!!

Yeah, I honestly don't believe that test scores necessarily correlate with intelligence (and even if I had received a 36 or a 2400, I would still think this way). Granted, they're still important, but there are other ways you can prove that you are a unique person beyond a number.

pv_tv: true dat. My test scores do not in any way consistently correlate to academic performance. I didn't take the SAT but on the psat and all the practice tests I did, I got below 2000, I got a 33 on the ACT (two sittings, that's the best from each section) 10 on the writing, and 650s on three subject tests. I got a 6 on the IB SL chem test, which would roughly translate into wayyy higher than a 650 on the SAT chem test, not to mention I've got a 4.0 unweighted gpa w/ all IB courses. I have a feeling admit officers will look at my app and scratch their heads. Or hopefully realize that the collegeboard just likes to mess with people. :)

I don't mean to be rude but 5% of the class has under a 500 in Critical Reading.
Unacceptable- I'm sorry- I say this as someone who was wait-listed with a 1560 on the old SAT.

brown considers the writing section of the SAT right?

Mondo - recruited athletes maybe?

"got a sneak peek"
Hmm...Is this "got a sneak peek" allowed?

My daughter's been getting mail from Brown (and Dartmouth and Barnard, but no other Ivies) based I'm assuming on her sophomore PSAT (185, 66 CR & W, 53 M) or ACT (29 composite). Even with a 3.9 unweighted GPA and 6/451 rank, these schools are real reaches - well, they're reaches for anyone, but especially with those low (by Ivy standards) scores. Anyone else with comparable stats been getting mail from the Ivies?

2welll smalllab, its not really a nseak peek lol. when i kept asking my teacher whether she had sentmy rec, she showed me some of the points she had mentioned in them and they were really nice! thats it. i never saw the real recommendation just her diary with some points jotted down in them for reference when she wrote the rec
