Califa
I have almost exact duplicate of your daughter (a little higher on the PSAT math) and am getting UPenn, Cornell, Yale, Princeton...but no Brown. My first choice!!!! I am not applying to any of the above either. The only Ivy I want to attend is Brown - in fact the only college I really want to attend but I guess it is a role of the dice...PS: Im west coast and go to a small independent school that ranks, which is a problem considering we have about 30-35 ranked 1 and 2 (yes, they are all over 4.0w) which isn't me. At least your daughter will have that going for her.

califa, getting mail from a school really means nothing. You shouldn't put any weight into that at all.

Re a small number of admitted students with a very low CR score: remember, foreign nationals for whom english is a second language also have to take the SATs...

Go us! :]

SAT I CR(660) M(680) W(710) E(11)
SAT IIs: Bio (Crap) Math II (Even more crap).

:D

Hmm, I have like a 1910 SATs, 620 Sat II Bio and 640 Sat II Math one...
But I'm taking full IB diploma (39 predict), 3.75 gpa, I guess what you could call "strong" EC's, I'm graduating 2 years early, and I've lived overseas for over half my life... I waived my right to see my letters of recs, but my councilor and one of my teachers let me read theirs and they were both really nice...
Do you think I'd have a shot despite the low-ish SAT scores? They're right around the 25% for Brown...

hey Llurvebrown......I got 40 IB points and a 1940 sat..and I'm applyng...so i hope we both get in despite our sats :) gud luck!

Two CC posters were admitted to Brown last year with ACTs of 24 & 25 respectively; neither of whom was a recruited athlete. An ACT 24 = 1100/1600 SAT. An ACT 25 = 1140/1600 SAT.

ngb127 - I hope you get in. I guess in a way it can be a disadvantage to go to a good school because outstanding students will have a lower class rank when over 30 have over a 4.0. The one advantage of a mediocre high school is that a kid like D who would be top 20% at a great school has a shot at top 1% at this lousy hs.

ILurveBrown & lauralusia - you never know what the adcoms will be looking for, and if you stand out in other ways... good luck!

Ha Ilurvebrown and lauralusia: I am applying with a 40 IB predicted, a 2040 SAT (though I regave it this november. I hope it increased) and TERRIBLE SAT II scores. Hope the essays do the trick for me

You guys are so lucky your doing IB! Have CR730 M620 W680 and in SAT 2s I have LIT 700 FRENCH 630 MATH 1 610
Um international and I have like a great final exam percentage and won A whole lot of awards for academics so hopefully that does the trick! Do they take percentiles into account? Because my SAT 1 percentiles are pretty high : CR 97% M80% W 94%

Thanks you guys!
Wow, people got in with a 25? That means we coulddd get in! Never know :D
Good luck to you toooooo lauraluisa :D

Have any of you had interviews yet? I just got an email from an alum saying she was assigned to interview me!!! Ahhh! :D Im so excited! But kindof nervousss

Once you get into the higher range, do you think that a 2300 would be held in higher regard than a 2200, if all other parts of the application were about equal? Or does a high score count for the same no matter how high it is?

im from a small town school, divorced parents, country boy from an under represented location and state, 31 act, valedictorian, good essays and great recs.

I HOPE I GET IN AND I HOPE YOU ALL DO TOO!

CC BROWN CLASS OF '13!!!!

I got a CR: 660 M: 800 and W: 700 and a 31 on the act, which one would I be better off submitting?

I think they will play out to be about the same. My college counselor told me a 30 was a little over 2000 on her scale. You have a 2160 and a 31...so guessing they would be about the same. If you are a science math "major", I would send the SAT. That Math score is nice.

thx :) but english is low :(

is 1950 a good score for Brown?

PS. Check the link for more info

Thanks

Inter- Check out this part, its really cool, it tells you all the averages and percents of who got in from each range of SAT scores and stuff...
Brown Admission: Facts & Figures

Inter1908, I hate to say that your scores are fairly low by Brown standards. However, I think they will understand that your CR and Writing scores will be lower since you are not a native English speaker. Even if you speak English fluently, you just won't score as well as those who were born in English-speaking countries. (I came from S Korea when I was 9 so I know)

From your chances thread, I can see that your ECs and graduating from HS early will give you a clear boost. They should definitely see that you have something to contribute to Brown. Good luck!

Does Brown take into consideration ethnicity/income level when they read SAT/ACT scores? Just wondering.
