Babson has open concentration system. You only need to take 4 advanced electives to get it as a concentration. Between Junior and senior year you have about 14 open classes for advanced electives, so that's a lot of flexability.

So you can be economics concentration and then take five advanced entrepreneurship electives and one marketing class if you want. It's open ended, one of few good things of the school.

so get like a economics or finance concentration and then take a bunch of entprenership classes on the side. Or take a lot of marketing classes and eps electives on side.

MassIsHorrible perhaps try BU for their School of Management. It is supposed to be very highly reputed and BU has some truly brilliant students. You are also right in Boston.

hahahah well well well. Sympathy I'm at Penn State in their business program. A few things to know

We are very highly ranked all across the board from management, marketing ,finance, accounting, operations etc....

If you like the large school atmosphere and enjoy tailgating and large frat parties come here and you will LOVE it.

If you are not into that stuff then don't. However, if it is between Babson and Penn State if you don't expand your options I highly suggest you enjoy Penn State's atmosphere because if you don't you are in for a non-traditional college experience at Babson which can also be very bad.

a few single rooms are available. You can get one quite easily if you just keep on requesting it. I made a mistake at Penn State U Park because I don't like the huge school atmosphere. If you are into frat parties, tailgating, watching an amazing football team and just having fun with a bunch of people then go to Penn State because the business program is truly outstanding and better then Babson and many other business schools.

http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/04/#top30
It's for MBAs, but recruiters cross associate mba & undergraduates a lot for hires. The schools ranked above, are the ones I'd reccomend over Babson for job placement, the ones below or not listed are ones I wouldn't. Business Week is industry standard, not Newsweek. It is also more accurate, because it includes all the ivies who don't have undergrad business(except wharton). This from career standpoint only of course, social life wise that's for you to decide.

Dunkaroo
I am not here to get in argument about better school, but penn state isn't even ranked in bweek. Bweek rankings involve salary, and more importantly recruiter opinions (not deans opions like in newsweek).

1 Northwestern

Notice Penn State University Park at Number 18 and Babson at 26. The big difference is down below

Here are Penn State's rankings of concentrations within business

Best Business Programs and Departments

Business program rank: 18
Real Estate rank: 12
Finance rank: 14
International Business rank: 22
Management rank: 9
Management Information Systems rank: 20
Marketing rank: 16
Production/Operations Management rank: 12
Supply Chain Management/Logistics rank: 4

Babson's individual rankings are as follows:

Best Business Programs and Departments

Business program rank: 26
Entrepreneurship rank: 1
International Business rank: 22
Management rank: 24

If you want to study finance go to Bentley their overall finance/accounting and just math oriented departments are much stronger then Babson's. Babson excels in entrepreneurship.

Bentley is 20th in accounting and 13th for Computer Inform. Systems. Both are technical business majors.

I made the mistake of not going to Bentley in the first place and I'm recommending it to others because it truly is a wonderful school that I wish I could have attended. It is especially strong for what you are interested in

I would like to transfer from Penn State University Park to another school in Boston or out west if I can get into USC or UCLA etc...

I guess when people say 'last time', they don't really mean it do they?

This is my last comment on rankings issue and quality of program. I'm not here to bash any schools or make any claims so if you have any outside opinions feel free to PM me.

I think my post gets the point across pretty clearly as to who is "better" for business studies. All three (Bentley, Babson and Penn State) are excellent but if you go solely on rankings one is clearly stronger then the other two.

Dunkaroo, are you dense. Why are you on this board anyway, did you get rejected and just troll around.

Vehement, read criteria used by USNews rankings and Businessweek, judge for yourself. USNews-Ranking by deans at other schools, number from 1 to 5. Businessweek-Satisfication from students, Recruiters Opinions, and student salary.

My Opinion
The best judge for programs in my opinion is Businessweek and to a lesser extent, the Harris Interactive suveys which compose the Wall Street Journal rankings, this also has recruiter opinions.

Judging individual programs doesn't give you much. Let me give you an example not related to Babson, Notre Dame is 22. A top Notre Dame grad is going to get a job over Purdue Univ.West Lafayette (Krannert) (IN)* 3.9
U. of IllinoisUrbana-Champaign * 3.9
Univ. of MinnesotaTwin Cities (Carlson) * 3.9
Univ. of WisconsinMadison * 3.9
Washington University in St. Louis (Olin) 3.9
Emory University (Goizueta) (GA) 3.8
Ohio State UniversityColumbus (Fisher) * 3.8
Pennsylvania State U.University Park (Smeal) * 3.8
in the consulting and finance industry despite the fact that they are ranked higher. The best way to judge programs is to look at what the graduates end up doing and whether you want to do that.

Likewise, despite the fact that Harvard isn't ranked, they will be recruiter over everyone except the Wharton Kid. That's why I think the businessweek rankings are better, because they include all the schools that executive recruiters go for high profile jobs.

Look at the Businessweek ranking and look at the Newsweek ranking, call people up and ask which list is more accurate in terms of who IS GOING TO GET THE JOB.

Sorry to the prosepctive students, I veered off in a ****ing contest with Dunk.

for the prospective students

The bottom line though is that you have to like the enviornment. Do you think you would get along with other Babson students? Be honest.

Are you willing a risk taker? Are you conservative politically, if not, can you tolerate them all the time? Is you goal coming into college to develop your career through your related coursework and making contacts with likeminded people? Do you consider yourself a hardworker? There are many highly intelligent people that aren't overachievers. Is it important for you to get to know your classmates well? You will get to know them all. You will see the same people everyday, is this good or bad for you?
