Evolutionary Bio and UCI v UCD?

Both accepted me
UCD: Evolution, Ecol & Biodiversity
UCI: Ecology & Evolutionary Biology

I want to be a paleontologist. I’m still waiting on UCB, UCLA, and UCSD

I hear UCI is utterly conservative (I detest the right)
UCD seems like it is still within the Bay’s Leftist aura

UCD is superior in biological sciences, although at the undergraduate level there is no comparison (rankings are done via graduate level programs). If you're heading into paleontology, Davis is clearly the better choice.

As for So-Cal being conservative, I don't really notice it that much besides the pro-military/mildly religious atmosphere (I live in SD). Political affiliation shouldn't be a reason not to choose a school. I consider myself fairly liberal (well, compared to my old government class, I think many people are liberal) but I would choose UCLA over UCB simply because I like the LA area and the region around UCB doesn't seem all that appealing. Hostility towards the Right seems almost like the same close-mindedness that liberals claim conservatives have ;)

UCD is ranked #1 in the nation for evolutionary biology over cal and harvard.

"“The number one ranking nationwide of UC Davis in graduate training in ecology and evolution is a very important accomplishment for our campus,” said Peter Wainwright, evolution and ecology professor and former chair of the Population Biology Graduate Group. Wainwright stepped down from the position this summer as he is on sabbatical this year."

Holy crap! I took a class with Professor Wainwright last quarter! Wow, I indirectly got taught the best evolutionary biology class in the nation. Whooo!

megathunder, how is the competition in the science classes at Davis? is it intense?
