I am a prospective global studies major and cannot do math or science to save my life…and knowing Revelle’s stringent math/science GE’s I’m seriously considering other universities even though I consider them less of a fit…

I already tried sending a letter of appeal to change colleges, and they wrote back saying I couldn’t…I sent them a “please reconsider” rebuttal letter just for the h*ll of it because as of now I have nothing to lose…

please please please guide me/console me…I REALLY wanted ERC but I got Revelle…

Are there ways to circumvent the GEs? I know it’s insanely hard to switch colleges but has it at least been done?

You can switch if you can prove you won't graduate in 4 years at your college AND that you can at your intended college.

You can take non-engineering/science math and science courses - the chem 11/12/13 series, physics 11/12/13 series, and so on. Science courses at UCSD are considered difficult...but this is only true in the science and engineering levels.

I suggest you call the school and find out what math/science classes will suffice for your GE. Look through the catalog and see if you think you can survive. Do you have any friends at UCSD you could talk to? Take the math/science classes one at a time. Do they offer them in summer school?

Hey lecorbeau, i am in the same position, majoring in history at Revelle and i was worried at first about the math and science requirements. I was reading on the website about the classes that i would have to take and i found that the requirements for math and science are different for students majoring in humanities. So we are still going to have to take math/science classes but they are easier than normal. The one i remember in particular is for a chemistry requirement we can take a class called "The Periodic Table of Elements" which seems like an intro to Chem. So i would try and check out the UCSD website and see if you can find anymore info regarding your particular majors in relation to necessary GE's.

Hey I was accepted into revelle too for as a poli sci major and i was wondering if anyone had any input about which college at ucsd was the best between the six of them....and please let me know if i am completely in the wrong place with a poli sci at revelle.

No but seriously, I've heard numerous times that you just need a foolproof reason to do an ITC (inter-college transfer) such as being able to graduate earlier if necessary...

Another thing you can do (these are the words of the ERC dean)...you could petition the University to enroll in the core class of another college and attempt to transfer after a year or two...though she really didn't clearly outline the entire process...

hey now. Watch it NewSlang :)
Actually, I randomly chose Revelle at the last minute before submitting my application. But I am a science major who likes math, so it might be my kind of place. I'm not gonna lie, might have to go crash the 6th/Muir parties though.
