and Financial Aid

I was just wondering about the variations between letters because it seemed as if some who recieved one had letters that seemed to GAURANTEE them a spot in the class.

Mike,

there are different versions of the likely letter. Your letter is very similar to the one my D recieved (trust me she is there in the class of 08 so the big letter does come). Had to search through the archives, but here is hers;

Not every one who gets a likely gets extended an invitation to attend Dimensions(don't know why). Go, meet some of the prospective 10's attend some classes, talk to the government department, go to a couple of funtions and make friends (some of her best friends are people that she met at Dimensions, as while they were there they all committed to attending Dartmouth together) and have fun.

Got a different one. A short quote:

"There is no question that when we mail our final decisions at the end of March, you will be offered admission . . ."

No mention of financial aid (not applied for) or Dimension Days.

Son received the one Daderoo mentions. "there is no question that when we mail our final decisions at the end of March, you will be offered admission to the college."

It is much shorter than the ones posted.

Included in his was the offer to attend Dimensions, with financial assistance for transportation.

Kat

Oh Kat,

Congrats to you and son. He has some really amazing choices and some really hard decisions to make

(come to hanover, come to hanover she whispers into the ear of her cyberfriend :) )

Why the difference in wording?

on a side note, if we can't go to Dimensions, should we let D know? I would love to go, but i have a states conference on the EXACT dates and the conference has already been paid for by the district and unless I want to p.o. some people in the school administration for wasting their money, i don't have a choice! :(

If you have never visted the college, spent the night or attended classes, I would recommend that you attend Dimensions as you are making a decision as to where you want to spend the next 4 years. It is one thing to hear about Dartmouth from others, but it is another thing to experience for yourself and know for your self if hanover is the right place for you (some do come and find it too small/to rural while others find it just right).

Is there any way that an alternate, perhaps a Jr. (since most seniors will have some type of admitted student event at the same time Dartmouth has theirs) who could attend. At the time the conference was scheduled, you did not know where you would be accepted to college and when the admitted student days were.

Is the confrence covering all 4 days?

I believe that the school administration will work with you and will be very amenable as far as letting you out of the commitment and sending some one else in your place if you really want to attend Dimensions (they will also be saving face as they don't want to have a reputation for being so inflexible, because if they are perceived that way students won't attend the conference). while you don't want them P.O. with you, they also don't want you coming there filled with resentment for having missed the opportunity of finding out if a particular college is the right place for you.

good luck with your decision

good luck with your decision.

sybbie719 thanks again, the conference covers the first three days of Dimensions. I spoke with my advisor yesterday and he was pretty adamant about it being too late now since everything has already been paid for :(, but I WILL be visiting Dartmouth during Easter vacation which is about 5 days before Dimensions.
