Hi, so im plannin my schedule for next year and im not sure if im gonna like ap physics. im taking physics honors rite now and i don't hate physics but i don't love it. im getting an A in the class. i wanna know if i should take ap physics c mechanics? can someone who's taken that class tell me the amount of homework, the score they got on the ap exam, and if its a lab-based class. i'd appreciate any advice given! thanks in advance

bumppppyyyy!!

I'm in physics B, and our teacher sometimes gives us Physics C mechanics multiple choice questions for practice. The majority of Physics C multiple choice questions (I would say 75%) do not require calculus at all and are the same as Physics B multiple choice mechanics questions.

Also, I'm in physics B, and it is definitly not a very lab based course, not at all. Physics C won't be any different, most likely even less lab based than physics B.

As for hardness, that is so subjective. So people find physics and calculus easy, others find it impossible, If you are good at math, Physics C will probably ok for you.

it's hard as hell.

The class depends on your school (though I would be surprised to find it was VERY lab based, as opposed to something like chemistry), but the subject in general and the AP Exam in particular are hard as hell. I found it much, much harder than Calculus AB.

im gonna be takin calculus bc while taking ap physics..don't know if that would ease things up a bit...i feel like i made a mistake takin ap physics c next yr :(

my school has both sections of physics C in one year
so next year will be fun (:

aww..that sux..i only have physics c mechnics the whole yr...wat was i thinking

It's really really really hard and anyone who tells you any differently is either
a) trying to make themselves sound smart
or
b) trying to make you take it so they can watch you flounder.

At the same time, it's both extremely challenging and extremely rewarding--I'd say it's probably my most stimulating class and I would definitely take it again if I had it to do over.

For AP Physics exams, from my own experience and research, I've found that they rank in difficulty as follows: Mechanics < B < E&M. Mechanics, I hear, is a relatively easy exam. If you're good at calculus and/or math, you should be good with Mechanics (but, then again, some people just don't 'get' physics). I'm enrolled in B right now and find it pretty easy, to be honest (no, I'm not bragging... it's really just the truth). I imagine C being actually easier concept-wise since it uses calculus, but who knows?
