Exactly how hard is it to get into the Engineering Program

For instance would I get in with my tentative stats:

29 ACT (Retaking this Saturday, expecting hoping for 30+)
Weight GPA: 3.95
Unweighted: 4.125
Top 10% in my class (31/336)
A lot of Honors Classes and some AP classes
Several Awards here and there for Academics

Problem is I live in Ohio so that probably would hurt.

So do I have a decent shot at UIUC Engineering?

If you can raise your ACT by a couple of points, you'd have better chances, particularly if your high school is competitive. Your ACT and class rank are both around the bottom 1/4 of accepted students, so I would say your chances are low unless you have something else going for you. How difficult is your courseload? Did you take engineering-related classes like AP Calculus, AP Physics C, AP Chemistry, etc? High AP scores, perhaps?

Middle 50%:
30-33 ACT
1310-1460 SAT (V+M)
90th to 98th percentile class rank

U of I Admissions: Freshman Admission Requirements

I was accepted with the following stats:

ACT: 30
Weighted GPA: 4.25
Unweighted: dunno
Rank: Top 3% out of 400+, but i can't remember exact rank.
Mostly honors classes with only 2 AP (AB Calc and Chem)
Many awards for academics, some very (...very) minor awards for athletics

Take it as you will.

I am taking AP Calculus AB (self studying the BC part), AP Chem and AP Gov Next year. I took AP US History and got a 5.

All my science and math classes have been honors classes.

My School is pretty competitive, we sent about 4 to top colleges (MIT, Princeton, Stanford, UCLA) this year

I don't know what all the naysaying is about. I am not going to call you a shoe-in, but you have an above average shot of getting in I would say. I have plenty of friends with similar or worse credentials than that that got in. I would suggest that you consider taking Calc 2 at the university though. I know it is a hard class, but I have heard from friends of mine that in retrospect, they wish they had not used their AP credit to get out of Calc 2 and would have just taken it. Luckily my HS didn't offer BC and I could only take AB so I had not real choice in the matter. Also, unless you are really good in physics, don't expect to AP out of it. It requires a 5, and the physics AP test was pretty tough when I took it.

Ok I got an Update, got my new ACT score. I got a 32 if that helps me any

Very likely in.

I'm in 27% or so, Is there any chance for me? My school's average ACT is 24 so it's pretty competitive, I am a URM (hispanic) with a 2180 SAT (800-M) and good EC's, but I'm afraid UIUC won't look past my rank, which is the worst part about my stats.

Don't worry about your stat, OP. You look fit to get into UIUC's Engineering School. Just make sure that you apply early!

How can your weighted GPA be lower than your unweighted GPA?

I just messed up the order, sorry

OP with 32 ACT and top 10% has a very good chance at engineering (nothing is certain). Being out-of-state is not a disadvantage (your evaluated on same basis as in-state). Make sure you apply by priority date (usually sometime in first half of November)

As to fiNO1: your class rank makes it a reach. You don't say which college. If engineering or business odds are less than for others; course difficulty level and URM status are considered so it is definitely worth the application cost to see what happens.

i wouldn't say that your ACT score is everything. my friend got into the engineering program there, and he had an ACT average of 26. i'm assuming they were looking mainly at his math scores, though.
