I'm getting mixed information in other threads so for those who have been through this, exactly what do I have to do if my SAR states that my FAFSA has been selected for verification?
1. Do I do nothing until I hear from schools?
2. Do I call the fin aid dept. at all the schools I applied to?
My Emory "to do list" showed I needed a verification and that is what tipped me off.
3. Will some schools require nothing, especially if they use IDOC for tax returns or I have already been required to mail returns?
Your help is appreciated - lots going on in my house and I am trying to handle as much of this as possible without a parent (thankfully they are there if I need them though).

The reason you’re getting mixed information is that different schools want you to do different things. Some schools verify all the FAFSAs they receive that are selected for verification, so as soon as they notice that you’re selected, they’ll contact you. Some schools aren’t required to verify all the FAFSAs they receive that are selected for verification, so they may not do anything. Some schools have too few financial aid officers and too many FAFSAs coming in, and it might be some time before they figure out you’ve been selected for verification.

The only way to be sure you’re doing what you’re supposed to, is to call the financial aid dept. at all the schools you applied to. Sorry, but it’s true. While you’re waiting to hear back from them, make sure you can get your hands on your parents’ tax returns and W2s for 2008 (and your own tax return and W2 if you filed taxes and received a W2) since those will be needed for the verification process.

Thank you so much! That makes sense about different schools doing different things. Taxes ready to go - most of my schools use IDOC and I have already sent tax return copies to a couple others- so perhaps that is all that will be required for them?
Thanks again!!
