Exagerration On Your App

so on the activities sheet, its pretty vague - which leads me to think penn doesnt put much weight on it.

the time spent… all they ask is for approx hrs per week, not which seasons of the year or how many weeks a semester or anything even close to that.

so how much did you exaggerate on your “approx hrs per week” or were you completely honest about your french honor society club and put .14 hours per week?

Yeah, that's the thing that's been bothering me. I spent approximately 15 to 20 hours a per week for a volunteering activity that I organized in the summer, but it was only for the summer. If I started getting technical, I don't know how many sig. digs. I could fit in that tiny space..

Yes, but aren't you supposed to read French novels or newspapers in your spare time, spend time preparing for meetings, getting to and from events that are planned etc. If you add it all up, its probably more than you think.

For one of my activities, I only put 2 hours. But for another I put even more. The thing is, we have tennis practice (for the tennis team at school) for approximately 12.5 to 13 hours per week, but we also spend time outside of school (approximately 5) on weekends and after practice (after the rest of the team leaves). What do I do then? I would feel really ridiculous putting a lot of big numbers there.

I'd include all those hours.

yeah, i didn't really know what to put on some of my activities. For example, i'm in drama, and about 2 weeks before each play we put in about 50 hrs/week. There's usually 4 or 5 plays a year. However, after each play is over, for about 2 weeks, we don't meet at all. Normally, we practice from 15-30 hrs.

I added all my hours together, divided it by the number of weeks in the school year...

I didn't lie at all on my application--what a bad start to your college experience.

For the clubs that I don't participate a lot in, such as FBLA, I just put 1 hr/week . I think they'll get the fact I don't do much for it.

a lot of "one hours" a week will add up..
