exam scoring question

My professor in one of my math courses isn't very willing to tell us about how our exams will be curved or how grades will be distributed.

If I average 20 points below the average exam scores, score the average on quizzes (which are also curved), and score about a 95% on the homework sets, what kind of grade can I expect?

consistently scoring 20 points below average on exams?

I think it would be C-

Completely depends on the math course. If it’s one of the 115/116/215 you’re probably right around a C/C-. If it’s a higher leveled class you could be anywhere between that and possibly all the way up to a B+ or A- (that would be if it’s a grad class with mostly PhDs).

What class is this?

If the average is 62, you get 60 out of test. What will be the likely outcome of the grade? This is Math425

Yes it is math 425. The professor is really adverse about telling us about grading scales, and he hasn’t responded to my email about it yet so I asked here too.

Do you think it is better dropping it, or continuing it? I’d be happy just to pass this class.

I think it can depend on the professor but you’re probably sitting at a B- or around that right now.

have you taken the course before? If its around a B-, then thats good news. But that means the curve is set at like an A- which doesn’t really make sense to me…

No I haven’t… But the 400-levels are usually curved around a B+.

math 425 is about B.

from a credible source:
21% A
7% A-
4% B+
24% B
6% B-
7% C+
18% C
4% C-

^how are you supposed to interpret that scale? Oh and the prof just wrote back that my grade is C/D range. And I can’t even drop at this point. :)

you just have to estimate I guess. 50th percentile occurs at B so…

that’s too bad. good luck next time!
