sigh... apparently no one listens to me when I (admittedly rather implicitly) said it doesn't have to be in a certain format, nor do i believe it's "meant" to be in a certain format... it's just a place for you to express yourself. don't conform to what others have done, be unique, and be yourself.
I want to go to Brown because I know Rabo will be there next fall and he is god. Oh and because Brunonians sometimes have colorful hair. GO BEARS!

My friend who EDed to BU spent all weekend telling me Brown was the color of *****, and that at all our games opponents would chant such things at us, and I got annoyed and told him that ppl would chant "safety school" at his, but then he got deferred, so maybe not. I feel a little bad now.

Howdy..sorry to do this to you rabo...but could you send me it too? I have to write one of those "why" essays to Emory and I'd like an actual example of what they want, etc. Thanks!

Don't you think it's self explanatory enough? You tell why you want to matriculate at said school. Cite things such as facilities, research opportunities (with reference to your intended major), and student body. Simple.

This thread has been really bothering me. Don't you all know why you want to go to whatever colleges you're applying to? Don't you all have a list (in your head or on paper) of what you want in a college and how a particular college matches up with your wishlist? And I'm sure you all know how to write an essay--an introduction, a few paragraphs, a conclusion. Have some faith in yourselves!

I think people are just freaking out and worried. Of course, they know why they want to go to that college (normally.) Personally, it's just nice to know that all you have to be is straightforward. People need reassurance.

You n00bs, that is NOT an ESSAY! Its a short little snippet that they give only a few lines for. Man, only on CC could this be blown so out of proportion...

i wrote it yesterday, very very easy. Put whatever comes to mind. I mean, how much time do they spend on each app? Probably not much. So how long do you think they'll pay attention to this question? If you want to write something cliche, something that everyone else would write, I figured you might as well. It wont help or hurt you, they'll just move on. Try standing out in something they'll more likely invest their time in reading.

are you people seriously asking for the 'why brown' essay? First, its a short answer. Focus on your activities and personal statement. The activities one is really important, so spend more time asking people how they did that.
