I'm not so sure that the "why Brown" part is as comparatively unimportant as you make it out to be, despite its small format. The truth is that Admissions Offices are extremely interested in getting students who are a good fit for their school, and this kind of question can be very telling in that regard. This is particularly important at Brown, which prides itself in being different from other prestigious universities in a number of ways. I can say that most students that Ive met here so far probably answered that question in way that matched them very well to the Brunonian academic culture. All this said, I still agree with thethoughtprocess in terms of using cc more for the other questions than this one; the answer to why Brown should come entirely from the applicant him/herself.

Would anyone mind PM'ing me an example of a Why Brown essay. Thank you..appreciate it

Rabo,

Can you send me the sample essay too? Thanks.

Any help would be nice, too.

aren't you supposed to be writing why YOU like Brown? just be yourself.

This thread really bothers/worries me for two reasons:

If you guys love Brown so much, you should know what you love about it and how to write it down in a coherent essay, with or without advice or sample essays; and

No one should really be sharing their essays with people they don't know. You never know if someone will just send the whole thing in, or even take one or two sentences from it. No matter how well you think you know someone online, you can't risk something like possibly getting an admissions decision rescinded over something small like this. I know how much you probably just want to be helpful, but I don't think your future is worth a risk like this one.

Anyone who steals an essay from an already accepted applicant must be completely stupid, since they know the adcoms have already read it.

^Ah. So I guess that pretty much solves it. May I then have a copy of the essay? Thank you :)

Using other people's essays for ideas = TTT

can you pls email it to me as well? christina_sok@yahoo.com

is 542 words too long for the why brown essay?

^Yes. It is.

damn... :(
are you sure?
ok so how many words does it have to be?

and can someone pls send an eg of a "why brown" essay to my email .. thanks!

Hey Rabo, I'm not surprised because your essay is short. But I think it's mostly about what about Brown attracted you (why Brown fits you), right? Aren't we supposed to tell why WE fit Brown, too?

hey, i know everyone has asked for a copy...is there any way you can PM or email me one too? (CrFrogman2@cs.com) thanks a lot!

I don't think there's anything you're really "supposed" to do (as I've said many, many times) but I think it could be an interesting approach. I think quite a bit would overlap though (as in, I like this part of Brown, I would fit Brown because I will utilize said part). Also, make sure you don't come off as "OMG BROWN NEEDS TO HAVE ME BECAUSE I AM AWESOME AND FIT IT BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE CUZ I ROXORZ!!!11!!" But there are plenty of people (myself included) who simply said why Brown was awesome, so maybe it'd be a nice change, I dunno. ;)

do whatever you think is best.

i actually wrote about how cool the prospective students (you guys) are. :)

so ha, thanks for the inspiration!

I know this is starting to sound like a broken record, but could you email it to me, too, please? Alternatively, if someone wants to swap statements for editing, I'm willing. I'm putting my trust out there, you guys! Thanks!

Swap statements for editing? My god, it's just a short statement!

i finished brown!!! all sent :)

I never had a chance to visit Brown and I'm afraid my "Why Brown" essay will be very cliched. Any advice?
