Is it just a bad idea to include political items (taking sides on a controversial issue) when writing the essay? Or should those be avoided entirely?

I think politics are fine as long as you don’t support one side, especially on a controversial issue like abortion etc… If you’re talking about X politician’s humble beginnings fine. If you’re condemning the *** **** blasphemers who don’t believe in ***** then it’s a bad idea.

The essays are supposed to be graded on the quality of the writing not the opinions stated. It should be fine to use controversial issues as long as what you are saying is respectful and not offensive to somebody with an opposing viewpoint.

I suppose that’s true. I personally don’t trust it. It’s like writing 10 cuss words and crossing it out. Technically they are not allowed to consider it but I feel like they would anyway. You can definitely discuss controversial issues but many people would put bias on one side over the other ( without realizing it ). It just could be the difference between a 6 and a 5. Maybe I’m paranoid ;).

i think politics is fine, but one thing u need to be careful with is that u have to really know what you are talking about.
when you write about politics, u either get an excellent score like a 12 or an average score like 7 or something hehe
so whichever example u use, make sure u know the details and know what u r doing so…
