My son is accepted in both Texas A&M and Georgia Tech. Can anybody please offer some insight and experience on which of these two colleges is better for computer science/engineering? Cost is not a issue but I am looking for academic reputation and prestige in late career or job opportunity.

We need to make a quick decision before next Monday, please help.

However, they are both strong schools, with good academic reputations. As for “prestige”, GA Tech probably has the edge there. The comment I’ve always heard is - you can’t go wrong with a degree from GA Tech.

But - they are very different campus environments, not just in type of location (small town vs big city) and type of campus (traditional vs urban) but also in student body. TX A&M is going to be almost entirely TX students, where GA Tech has about 30% of students from OOS.

It is a very urban campus and as the poster above said, very different than Texas A and M. The schools have very different cultures as well, I think. Though both have very committed and loyal alumni, I think the experiences are very different.

I am a Tech alum who lives in GA who is sending a child to Texas A and M. (He isn’t going to be an engineer though.)

In terms of future employment or graduate school, I don’t think that graduating from either school is a disadvantage. Rather, I think your son’s grades and experiences will determine his outcome.

I really appreciate all your valuable inputs! We haven’t got a chance to visit since he got off the wait list yesterday and need to decide over the weekend.
Also the student stress level is another thing bothers me, I have heard very negative review about GT but wondering if that is given from being engineering major?
lastminutemom196, what is your insight of sending your kinds to A&M instead GT? What is the reputation with A&M over areas outside of Texas?
