Excel@Carolina is an umbrella name for programs in various subjects UNC offers to high achieving applicants. Some programs, like Chancellor’s Science Scholars, Innovation Scholars, and Wood Scholars, include scholarship money and access to various resources. Honors Carolina is a program included in Excel@Carolina. As far as I know, there isn’t an excel program that has something to do precisely with computer science.
@Pastpower , Does that mean student applying for school Mathematics, Computing, and Engineering majors (or specifically Computer science major) are not eligible for honors program or excel program?
@learning19 Definitely not. As long as you indicate which programs you’re interested in on the application, regardless of your major you should be given full consideration for them.
Hi Pastpower - My son will be applying as an OOS to UNC-KF Assured Admission (Excel@Carolina honors program. Did not see any stats on their website on how many people are admitted and how many are open to OOS? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
@kg2013 I’m not sure how many were OOS (UNC’s pretty scarce on info for K-F assured admission), but from what I’ve been told by past assured admits, it’s offered to ~100 applicants.
Honors Carolina is different from Excel @ Carolina. DS is in both (Excel for Research Scholar, and Honors Carolina). You have to mention which Excel opportunity you’d like to have- Research, Study Abroad, Chancellor’s Science, etc. Honors Carolina, you receive an invitation to join about a week after the admission results are out. They have a separate orientation for Honors students, and all that stuff.
