EXCEL program

I am enrolled for Fall 2009 and will also be in the Burnett Honors College. I plan to major in Industrial Engineering. A friend of mine recently gave me information about the EXCEL program and I got interested when it talked about paid research as a sophomore. I would like to ask any parents or current students out there if it is possible to do both EXCEL and the Honors College? Would the coursework be too much too handle? Also, if anyone has been or is in both programs, are there specific classes for each one and do they conflict with each other? I am aware that there are some classes I must take for Honors such as the freshamn symposium and I wanted to know if the same was true for EXCEL or if EXCEL just gave me special smaller classes like the Honors College does overall. I'd appreciate all and any advice because I don't want to sign up for this and end up just overwhelming myself right at the start of college life =/

Have you been to the website? It will tell you exactly what they offer and what is expected. My son will be in EXCEL in the fall and from the looks of it, they do require some time in the math lab, but I would think to succeed with the difficult courses required of an engineering major that wouldn’t be such a bad thing. You should definitely look at the website though.
