Excellent college gpa first semester but poor HS stats, what are my options

I currently go to a commuter school in nyc CUNY Baruch to be exact.

I worked really hard to get a 4.0 gpa this semester and am looking to transfer to other schools where I would get to experience college life and offer me better opportunities in Finance, and I would really like to do it so I can transfer into Sophmore year.

However I did not have an impressive gpa in HS (80/100) albeit from a topic nyc public HS and Sats of 1350/1970

From what I have heard and read is that the main emphasis is on the college record but that the HS record still plays a factor.

I know it will probably depend on individual schools, but would I be wasting my time or at least have a decent shot to top 25 colleges namely schools like UNC, UVA, Cornell ILR, georgetown, Vandy and Emory.

I know I will fare much better off next year as a junior.

Would it be wise or to my detriment to transfer twice to say a top 50 than again to a better state uand than again to a top 20 since I really want to leave.

Also if you guys personally know how the schools listed above or any schools you have transfer experience with deals with College and HS grades for sophomore transfers please add to the thread.

THank you guys for advice you can give me or your insight.

A 4.0 is VERY good, and will not be taken lightly. you should seek out 1 “Backup” school you want to goto, and pick at most 3 schools from the list. Even with the help of the commonapp, you will not have that much time to get 4 applications together before the deadlines.

Transferring twice is not pleasant, but it also not unheard of.

Thanks for the advice neu2nu

I wouldn’t transfer twice. Transferring is disruptive, expensive, and a pain. Transferring is worth it, but I would suggest do it once and do it well.

I would recommend you to stay in Baruch for two semesters more because you are going to have enough credits to transfer to another university. Usually, if you have 24-45 earned college credits (it depends on universities) they, admissions, won’t even look at your HS scores. So, if you maintain your high GPA, then you can transfer to any university you wish to.

westell220,
By the way, I’m going to transfer to Baruch myself. What can you say about this college? And why you didn’t like it? My interest is accounting and I heard that it’s a pretty good school.
If you are going into finance, I would suggest you to go to NYU Stern, if possible. Their program ranked top 10 in the whole U.S. Otherwise, try Pace University or Hofstra University.
The reason why is that they all are AACSB accredited, Baruch also.
