Hello!

My name is Alberto, I come from Spain, I study Business Administration in an university called ESADE (Barcelona), and I'll spend the second semester of the next academic year (my last year in university) in U of I as a exchange student in the Business College.

I've never been to USA before because I've never had the chance, so I've been searching for information about how life in an american campus is, because I think that life is really different as in most of the European universities (there are no such big campus like the Urbana-Champaign one).

So I'd like to know if you could tell me more or less how life of a one-semester exchange student is there. I've read that there are special activities for foreigners in order to make them get adapted to the campus, but I'd like to know if we have the chance to interact with american students, or if exchange students are used to being together without making native friends.

Moreover I've read about fraternities. Here we have some organisations in universities, but I think that we don't have anything similar to what you call 'fraternities'. I'd like to know what fraternities exactly are, and how can a student get into one of them. Are fraternities just for regular students in the campus, or are they also opened for exchange students?

I decided to make my exchange in the USA because I've always admired the country, and I'm really glad about having the chance to live there for a few months and know a different culture. So I'd like to know if it's easy to interact with american students and how, because I want to develop myself not only academically, but also socially.

Are there any special 'habits' there about partying? For example, here we're used to partying not only on weekends, but also on Thursdays. Do u do the same there?

Finally, I've also read that most of the exchange student choose the Sherman residence to live in. Do u think it's the correct choice?

Thank you very much for your help!! I'm really looking forward to live there!

Best regards!

P.S. Sorry for my level of English. I hope to improve it during my exchange program!
