So I'm in California, and know that the UC's are much harder to get into OOS than in-state, as well as much more pricey. Plus, if I'm not mistaken isn't also harder to get financial aid too?

Anyway, my question....

I noticed that annual tuition at UMAA is a lot pricier OOS than in-state, which is expected from a large public school, like the UC's, but is it really hard to get good financial aid there for OOS students? Also, are admissions really competitive for OOS students, like the UC's?

Thanks you guys!

I know people from Cali who got rejected from UCLA but got into (and attend) Michigan. So the whole IS/OOS issue had the opposite effect. I guess it all varies, but generally I would say in-staters have an advantage for both admissions AND financial aid.

But 85% of OOS receive financial aid. And yes , admissions are more competitive for OOS applicants.

85% of OOSers receive financial aid? Are you sure? Wow, that's amazing unless they're counting the 2K in loans they're required to give all OOSers who apply for fin. aid.

I'm sure getting aid as an OOS student isn't as hard as most people think. How much aid and the type (grants vs. loans, etc.) is a different story.

I don't want to steal the OP's fire but what is the 25-75 range on the ACT/SAT for OOS.

Michigan also does offer a lot of merit scholarships for OOS students that they automatically qualify for by sending in an application...they may be tough to get, but it's another thing to consider. Just apply, and you might get some free money!

im an OOS. im from Los Angeles. im attending Michigan for many reasons.

my Michigan grant was about 17-18K.
in total, my financial aid was about 30K.
still with room, board, food, supplies, etc my yearly pay would be about 40K.
i cant comfortably pay 10K a year, but UMich said there are too many students that they cant give each student the amount they need.
