Execution by firing squad?

I don't quite follow the debate on whether or not execution by firing squad should be legal or not. Why do some people think it is cruel and unusual punishment? Or, rather, what part of execution by firing squad makes it appear cruel and unusual?

I think the death penalty is immoral regardless. However, I suppose people see killing as appropriate when the person is asleep? As opposed to being shot.

I’d prefer firing squad to hanging or electric chair. Maybe even lethal injection, depending on the circumstances.

I read an article by a guy who witnessed a recent death by firing squad and it doesn’t sound like the worst way to go. There were like 5 guns and only 1 shot but the firers don’t get to know who shot. He is dead pretty much instantly as it goes right through the heart and it sounded pretty painless.

^^ On the contrary, I feel that the death penalty should be opened up for more than just murders, under certain circumstances. Most importantly, the condemned must be linked to the crime with indisputable evidence, such as DNA. If so, then I have no issue seeing pedophiles, attempted murderers, drunk drivers involved in fatal crashes, robbers/burglars (over $250K), and drug traffickers join those convicted of homicides suffer capital punishment.
