For the past couple years, I’ve been having issues with procrastination(I start homework sometimes as late as 10 PM, if I even do any at all) and focusing in class. In middle school I was always super focused and I never procrastinated, had almost 100s in all my classes, but it all went downhill when I went to high school. I still have a good GPA but it’s truly a struggle to keep it that way. I was diagnosed with depression but I’m not really clear on how that affects executive functioning- do I need to get tested for something else?
I suggest testing … In the case of my kid, the psychiatrist explained that she always has attention issues, even she has been doing great in middle school, but the demand of high school makes it difficult, causes her to have anxiety and depression…
I don’t see procrastination as an executive function issue. But it could be tied to depression.
isn’t procrastination related to time management?
When my son was depressed he could not concentrate at all. Depression affects everything. Be kind to yourself, just do the best you can - stay in treatment, too. It doesn’t resolve overnight, but depression can be treated successfully. My son did get better over a period of months and these days is able to focus and get his work done on his own again.
Thank you all so much!
Procrastination could be due to ADHD. Very common trait and not laziness at all.
