exercise in emory?

I'm a new incoming freshmen and I had a question about simple exercising facilities in emory. I don't mean professional exercising but simple work outs or hobbies. I enjoy swimming and I heard there's a large facility for that in emory is it true? and does it have alot of free spaces?also is there places for outdoor jogging?

I was absolutely blown away when I saw the fitness center on my visit there. There’s an olympic sized swimming pool in there, a couple of indoor running tracks and a bunch of paths outside for running there, I think you’ll be fine. As for me I’ll be enjoying the weightroom and indoor tennis courts on the top floor!

Yes, Yes and Yes lol. The WoodPec is huge, period, and especially for a D-3 school. And then there is also Clairmont, which is like a mini WoodPec and has a regular exercise area, with an indoor and outdoor basketball facility. Clairmont also has tennis, volleyball, and a large (Olympic sized) swimming pool outside. As for jogging. You can jog everywhere (pretty safe) and get a good workout because of the hills. There is also the outdoor track at the woodpec as already mentioned. However, when you get here it will be hot, so I would recommend our Lullwater park which is like 385 acres (there is a large creek, some small waterfalls, and some ponds. Makes for nice scenery) of forest. Lots of jogging/walking trails. Their is a path to both Clairmont and Yerkes (which means you basically take the shuttle back to campus if you are tired for whatever reason). Also I recommend Hahn Woods (also Emory’s) which coincides (across the street from lullwater exit/entrance) with the Lullwater entrance off of Houston Mill.

Iwantapril, if you don’t know already, you may be surprised to know that the Woodpec started from an aircraft hangar lol. It’s intense how far along this school has come. You also forgot to mention the rock-climbing walls. That’s quite popular.

Did you just recently visit Iwantapril?

Also: For more concrete info., here is the website for the SAAC at Clairmont. I also have the Woodpec.

I gotta say I was impressed with the size of the woodruff rec center when I visited the campus. However, I wasn’t impressed with the amount of workout equipment on the top floor (the main workout floor). Although I suspect for a school with 7k undergrads, which the majority are probably more into studying than working out, the facilities will be enough. Also, there’s a pretty cool indoor track that hangs above the basketball area. I believe it said 8 laps was a mile, so its half a full size track.

It definitely works. Again, there is also a smaller workout room at the SAAC. Keep in mind that those that live on campus are basically split between Clairmont and Main campus, so there might not be any incentive to add more equipment. However, keep in mind that many people here may not think “workouts”(most may simply be into cardio, not body building, thus there are many other means of facilitating that. Like all of the pleasant places to run or jog I mentioned) are limited to such equipment. Just as you said, most find the amount of equipment we have sufficient.

Yeah, I just visited in April. And the aircraft hanger thing makes a lot of sense now, the building was absolutely huge

I had a question…are the exercise facilities such as the weight room free for Emory students to use or is there an additional fee that students have to pay?

It’s included in the other stuff you pay.

Thanks Bernie2012
