Exercise/Workout options

Are there some reasonably accessible options for:

Racquetball
Weight room
Pickup basketball

for kids living in the HMC dorms?

There is a nice gym in the Linde Activities Center (LAC, right in the middle of the dorms) - I play basketball there a lot
there’s a pick up game basketball class on Thursday nights
pickup games on other nights aren’t uncommon but it’s not hard to find friends to play with
there’s also an outdoor court but I don’t use it as much
the LAC also has a decent weight room but the ones on CMC and Scripps are much larger and have more stuff

are there music equipments in LAC?
or would I have to go to Pomona

Do I have to go to Scripps to play the piano :3

There are 3 three small practice rooms with pianos in Platt that students can use (swipe card in), when i’m practicing, there’s usually only 0-1 more people there too

are the walls soundproof?

The practice rooms are mostly soundproofed. I say mostly because I can still hear the louder people from my South room directly across from one.

There is also a baby grand in South.

Pickup basketball is common enough here, you should have decent luck with that.

The weight room is enough to suit my needs, but as a distance runner I do fairly basic work. You can take a 6-8 minute walk down to Ducey at CMC if you need more.

3 upright pianos, 2 acoustic guitars - platt practice rooms, card access

1 baby marimba, sound system, drumset, amps, people’s person equipment - platt jamsoc room (requires jam society club membership, card access)

1 new adams vibraphone (my baby when i was there), 1 upright piano, 4 electric keyboards, 1 jazz drumset, amps - prof keller’s jazz improv class in 2nd story sprague library, special access

1 baby grand - platt green room, open access

1 baby grand - lac study room, card access

assorted instruments throughout campus… linde had a jam room last year with drumset, guitars, bass, mics, etc…

that’s all i know of on mudd’s campus.

sick

10char

Slight update to your info RocketDA, the LAC baby grand has been moved to South Lounge.

the lac study room’s baby grand has been moved to south lounge…

woah you two
how synchronized

Haha,yay!

Looking forward to bother people for the next four years.

Beyond what’s been discussed, there’s 6 Yamaha baby grands and 6 Steinway upright pianos at the Scripps music building. Mudd students don’t have card access unless they’re taking a Scripps music class, but you don’t need a card for daytime access.

There’s also IM basketball, both 5 on 5 and 3 on 3.

And I know there’s a racquetball PE class, so there should be courts somewhere… maybe on the Pomona campus.
