Hello!
I am an 8th grader from America. I attend a private college prep school that has a large international population and is a recognized boarding school. We send 2-3 kids every year to the Ivy Leagues or equivalents such a CIT, MIT, ect.
My native language is German and I am very German culturally.
I speak English, Spanish, and German fluently. I also have three years of Chinese and two years of Sinhalese.
I have a GPA of 4.0, which I understand doesn’t mean a lot, but here it is anyway. I have awards for being the best student in every subject, based off percentage grade WITHOUT extra credit.
I play JV soccer for my school and I am the Knowledge Bowl captain of my entire group (7&8 grade). I have 3 community service hours a week and I am part of We Day, a program to help schools and students help the world. I am also a representative for my school. I also participate in my school musical every year which is competitive and is performed at a professional theatre in a large town nearby.
I have played Cello for 4 years. I am concert master at school and I am the only cello in a private invitational orchestra.
I have played French Horn for four years and am considered advanced. I have a very wide range and can play higher and lower than my band teacher.
I have a close to perfect score on my PSAT 8/9, about 95th percentile in Math and 80th in Reading
I am just wondering what my chances of getting into some of the top boarding schools would be. (I would be on heavy financial aid.)
Thanks!
This should probably be moved to the Prep school chances forum.
You will need to take the SSAT, and it looks like you will score high. However note that the top boarding schools routinely turn away dozens of students with 99th percentile on the SSAT every year.
Your German background will certainly help, as the schools like to have lots of diversity.
However one of most important aspects is financial aid. There are only two prep schools that are need blind (Andover and Roxbury Latin). The rest are need-aware. I think you have a decent shot, but be sure to apply to a wide range of schools, as you have the greatest chance of being accepted at a school where you have higher stats than other admittees. Good luck
Thanks!
Is there any other aspects of my performance that could be improved to make me stand out?
