Is there occasion for a prep boy to wear a blazer or should my son leave them at home?

I can’t think of a single school function in which boys are expected to wear a jacket. The one thing they occasionally wear it for is to attend “teas,” which are get-togethers organized mostly by girls’ dorms, usually in the spring term. I think having ONE blazer is probably a good idea, with the understanding that he may not wear it at all.

As a current parent: When my son was a prep, he was required to wear a blazer to the Dan Brown dinner. They are also supposed to wear blazers if they need to go in front of the discipline committee, and he specifically did NOT go to a dance his prep year (spring formal) because dress code was a blazer and tie.

What is the Dan Brown dinner?

dan brown dinner is a dinner in which preps get to eat with dan brown and get books signed

I think casino night is also a night where formal dress is required…

Oh…duh. That makes sense. hand to forehead

Is the location of Lamont Hall ever a security concern?
No, we have not received a dorm assignment yet, I am just assigning this one a high probability.

A security concern?? Why? I can’t think of any place on campus (and, frankly, off campus in Exeter) that’s a “security concern.” Campus Safety officers patrol the campus 24/7, and Exeter, NH is an extremely safe place.

liddyb4, appearing before the discipline committee does not require a blazer, even though students may choose to wear one to show that they take the process seriously.

thanks!
just checking

Is there a way I can contact the Financial Aid office; not a specific person, but the whole office in general?

[Phillips Exeter Academy | Tuition and Financial Aid](Admissions & Financial Aid | Phillips Exeter Academy)

bottom of the page is the FA director

The financial aid office is part of Admissions, so you should contact Admissions (admit@exeter.edu).

i just got my dorm assignment and my roommate on lionlinks. i didn’t know that preps and lowers could room together!

Is there a reason that the Exetension info for the dorm I’m in and others in that same dorm is not showing up on Lionlinks? It’s showing up for everybody else…

aaeroplanes, I didn’t know that either. You’re a lower and your roommate is a prep?

urban, I don’t know why you can’t see the extension info; I’m sure it’ll be up soon if it isn’t up yet.

Preps and lowers can be roommates! Last year a prep and a senior were roomies in my dorm and they got along swimmingly :)

Lamont’s location isn’t a security concern, but many local kids (not students of the school) hang out in the playground behind that dorm and usually get themselves into trouble late at night. Exeter security tends to hang around on the street leading to Lamont to keep an eye on that. It’s also right next to the health center, and kids who need to get rides across campus to the nurses in the middle of the night are dropped off by security, so there’s another reason why security hangs out there.

Can students keep a leatherman or a swiss army knife in their rooms, or are they considered weapons rather than tools?

technically you’re not allowed to have that… but as long as you hide it somewhere where no one’s gonna look…

Security lets a lot of things pass… (well… I think they do… o_0)

there are a lot of things that students aren’t suppose to have that students have anyways. like posters–apparently the fire department consider them a fire hazard. but faculty will announce when some security checks happen iirc…

@seikuu: posters are allowed. (combined) they’re just not allowed to cover 50% of all the wallspace.
