Exeter Course Help

I'm coming into Exeter as a prep this fall, and I was wondering if the courses I chose are correct and don't go over the number of credits I'm allowed to have per term. Could any current Exeter students or alumni give some feedback? Thanks.

Why are you doing music lessons for no credit?

Well, I’m already at 6 1/3 credits per term, 1/3 of a credit too much already. Taking music lessons gives you credits, but if you don’t want/need them, then you don’t have to have them.

Your courses exceed the requirements, because of the MUS310, 210, and 130 (which isn’t a course). If you already are taking history and two religon courses as electives you won’t be able to fit the music course in. However, everything else is fine.

Okay then. Would you recommend taking music this year as my elective and putting off religion and history, or waiting till next year?

Maybe, you should concentrate on getting the requirements such as religon and history done, because taking private music lessons counts as a music requirment (I think).

Yeah, they do give one or two thirds credit per term. But I liked that music course because it taught music theory and composition.

Hey man, your course selections seem pretty cool. It’s interesting that you chose two religion electives!

Well, I want to get the religion requirement out of the way ASAP so I’ll take music for three electives next year ;D

If I’m reading things correctly, preps can take 6 2/3 credits because of Health. Everyone can take 2/3 music (lessons and ensemble) over and above their regular course load. If you want to take a full credit music elective, though, that probably gets more complicated.

Thanks classicalmama! I’ll keep that in mind. I might take music lessons for the 1/3 they give per term.

Total credits for the year: 18

That’s good for a prep right?

That looks right to me–have you checked out the rather complicated instructions for how to register for music? Lessons and ensemble are separate registration numbers (1/3 credit each).

Wish I could go! :)

5 2/3 credits is the max you can take per term. you are at 6.0 per term so you are over the limit.

IMO, lessons OR ensemble, not both.

If you take lessons, they are worked into your schedule during the day and are taken once per week.

Ensemble meets twice per week and is held in the evenings after dinner. This can cut into time needed for other club meetings and/or study/homework time.

He is not over the limit and he doesn’t have an ensemble; he just has lessons.

i registered for two ensembles and two private lessons (only two of them are for credit)…is that a little too much? =v=

Wow, that IS a lot in my opinion, somnusc. But maybe you’re taking them in lieu of history/science? If so, then it should be no problem. If you aren’t, well, I’m just a huge persona de procrastinado, so maybe you’re different and can totally manage it. =D

remember this is exeter guys. Taking an extra music class may cut into your free time which may make you stay up an hour later doing homework. and with the amount of homework you will get, you will need that extra hour of sleep.

^ Urbanflop is right. Preps are allowed 6 creds per term.

At the moment 2010Hopeful, I run on 3 or 4 hours of sleep a night and I’m totally fine. I think I’ll be okay haha!

I think I may try west african drumming if I go to exeter. haha. It sounds interesting and I don’t play another instrument.
