a lot of people thought this

Chaos, I'm really sorry too, I agree your enthusiasm was second to none.

Know the odds were stacked against you. An unhooked kid a few years ahead in math with a high SSAT is a typical applicant at Exeter. There is only space for a fraction of them. I do agree it doesn't matter where you go and there are advantages to being the very best in your environment, something hard to do at a top prep.

I'm a little taken aback at all the naive statements that are being written. I know most of you are young BUT look at the facts. You need a big dose of luck along with great stats. It's not shocking when anyone other than a Bush is rejected.

There are many things we on CC don't see. Teacher recs, personal style, hair color, weight, interview ability and on and on.........

suze, could you clear your inbox or sent messages? I'm trying to send you a PM and it says you've reached your quota.

suze, I really wasn't trying to be naive when I said i was surprised I got waitlisted. I actually think I had a lot of advantages that other people applying to Exeter did not. In other words, there some people at Exeter who really wanted me to be accepted.

Although this thread was originally meant for another purpose, I thank everyone for their response. However, I would like to say that I do not "deserve" Exeter no more than anyone else -- I do not believe I "deserve" anything; merely, I have done what has needed to be done. I congratulate those who were accepted to boarding school and my deepest condolences are with those who are not so fortunate.

Once again, good luck to all.

Chaostheory- I've really enjoyed all of your posts, you seem like a really neat kid. Did you say that you live in North Carolina? Have you considered the North Carolina School of Math and Science? It might be a perfect match for you...

My sister got accepted this year.

Her stats:
applying as a sophomore
82% on SSAT, 99% in math, 54% verbal
4.0 GPA, straight A's through middle school
is a gifted harpist: she has released her first record recently
also active in Irish step-dancing
from Asheville, NC
submitted a total of 7 recommendations: 4 from teachers (required if transferring from block scheduling), 2 from music instructors, 1 from parent. All recommendations were superb.

I got a no from Exeter as well.
Hmm...It was actually my third choice, too, so I'm really not that disappointed...
But I will be if I don't get into Andover. :(
