do you know when to expect an email from the advisor, roughly ? thank you

It took a couple weeks, but we sent our stuff in early. I imagine you’ll hear more quickly since registration starts next week.

Bump! Ask questions about your schedule for Exeter here!

The prep sequence is Jr Studies, English 120, English 130

There is no English 110 (Junior Studies takes its place).

Thank you Neato!

Without venturing into the credit/partial credit morass, which will get clarified soon enough from the FA and from Blackboard, we’re curious about the classes themselves. It seems there are 2 distinct tracks, Music theory and Applied Music. We’re wondering how and whether to combine the two. FYI we have a guitar player…Thankx !

Our non-bilingual incoming Prep has expressed an interest in Latin. Can anyone help me dissect this choice? A small amount of Latin seems obviously useful but the amount needed to fulfill the language requirement seems excessive vs the benefit of graduating with a second spoken language…tknx…

Latin is so foundational to romance languages, that learning it can make picking up French or Spanish or Italian much easier later. I’ve been able to help my son with his 1st year Spanish this year without knowing a bit of the language because of the four years of Latin I took in high school.

It stretches the brain, increases vocabulary, helps with English grammar, gives a kid exposure to ancient texts in their original tongue…but modern languages certainly have their uses too.

If your prep hates it, a year of it will, as you point out, be useful and it won’t be too late to switch to a modern language.

How’s that? :)

hey urban, what codes (JV vs Varsity) so you put in the physical education slots?
like, do you put Jv or Varsity field hockey and what not?

I think new students all get placed into a generic PE class as part of the registration process. I believe they also have a PE questionnaire sent to new students that asks about interest / background / experience in particular sports. Then in the Fall, they will move your course registration to the specific sport if you make the team based on tryouts. Same process come Winter term. If you make a JV or Varsity team, they’ll move your course registration from the generic PE course to the JV or Varsity team. However, this is all just based on my son’s prep year experience. Could be different for lowers or uppers or recruited athletes???

So does that mean that it doesn’t really matter what sport you register for while signing up for classes?

I appreciate your input. Still, the cost of switching languages seems high to me. Any current Exonians out here?

xflippx3: I note from another post that you are going to be an upper. I only have experience with the process for my son as a prep. When he signed up for courses, he got to choose a science (bio or physics), and two electives (language, history, art, music, etc). Jr Studies/English was set for everyone. Math was determined based on a placement test. Language class was also determined based on placement test. PE was set for everyone at the basic level. Tryouts for Fall sports were during the first 2 or 3 days of school. Not certain how the PE registration works for new uppers.

I think you mean three electives, since there are three terms.

I guess I mean two electives per term.

You can’t take 2 electives per term unless you don’t take one of the “core” classes

Core classes are Math, English, Science, Language, Elective (primarily history/art/religion)

people who take 2 electives are people who’ve dropped one of: math, science, language (these are the 3 things that are possible to be dropped after one gets enough credits)

for fall term, all sports are EF, basically after lunch. therefore what sport you choose does not affect your schedule at all.

seikuu: false. Sports can be AB, EF, FG, or GH. I know people in every single one of those schedules. Just put in the 9th grade PE for now [spaz], and then go email the coaches. They’ll do something about your schedule.

So for PE do you sign up for a regular PE class and then try out for the sport once you get there, or are you supposed to sign up for the sport you are going to try out for? I’m so confused!

same here flipp!

Don’t forget guys Course Regristration starts tomorrow!!! :D

Just sign up for the regular PE class for now.
